WHY THEY WANTED MUZA TO PLAY ABSA AT ALL COST
The match fixing scandal that forced respected CAF and FIFA referees instructor Gladys Lengwe and FAZ Ethics Committee Chairperson Sokwani Chilembo to resign has today claimed its latest victim, ZESCO United!
When Gladys resigned as head of FAZ refereeing committee, sponsored sycophants were unleashed on social media to insult her and yet no one attempted to deal with the serious matters she raised. Again, when Sokwani Chilembo resigned as Head of Ethics committee, the usual useful people were unleashed to shred his character and yet everyone is avoiding the issue being raised - match fixing!
And here we are today, Zesco United, the second most successful team in Zambian football with 9 league and the most successful team in the ABSA Cup is suspended from the league indefinitely.
But why is Zega Mambo suspended?
On 19 February, 2026 Zesco beat Zanaco 2-1 at Sunset Stadium, a victory that guaranteed them a last slot in qualifying to this yearβs ABSA Cup competition. And you see everyone who follows Zambian football knows the qualification process to ABSA β it is simple like black and white.
Bizarrely, on 3rd March, 2026 FAZ through the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) reversed ZESCOβs ABSA Cup qualification despite earlier confirmation that they had secured a spot following their 2-1 win over Zanaco.
ZPL claimed the slot was awarded erroneously, βclarifyingβ that Zescoβs Week 17 fixture against Mutondo Stars is yet to be played.
As was planned when the week 17 fixture was played, Mutondo Stars beat Zesco one-nil (we will talk about this game later).
After the controversial elimination of ZESCO United from the ABSA Cup, guess who took up the slot, MUZA FC, the club wholly-owned by FAZ president Keith Mweemba! We want to assume this is pure coincidence.
Feeling aggrieved, Zesco complained and appealed ZPLβs decision to determine their qualification into the ABSA Cup with a reverse fixture
But FAZ ignored the appeal .
