Horse riding school specializing in safe & fun horse riding lessons for all ages. 7km from Uitenhage

BallynaFagh Farm is nestled in the beautiful KruisRivier valley, just 7km from Uitenhage. We offer professional horse riding lessons, suitable for all experience levels and ages. We have qualified instructors and well-schooled ponies and horses. Beginner Lessons are R125 per person and Group Lessons are R225 per person per hour.

Do you really need all of the fancy gear to ride horses?
Quick answer - NOPE!
�What to wear to a first lesson is one of the big questions riders wonder about - especially if the rider is a complete beginner.

The good news is that you do not need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe in order to start riding!

For a first lesson, the most important points to keep in mind are:-
* long pants (something comfy and stretchy - leggings are great! 👖)
* closed toe shoes (with a small heel if possible 🥾)
* tied back hair in a low ponytail (we’ll leave the high ponys to the horses 😉)
* Nothing that flaps or makes too much of a noise (scarves, I’m looking at you! 🧣)
* sunscreen or weather-appropriate layers (ask if you’re not sure 🌞☔️❄️💨☁️)

And we provide the all important helmets - no helmet, no horse riding🐴

Most riders what to see if they’ll enjoy it, so I really don’t think rushing out and buying brand new everything for your first lesson is a good idea… 🏇

Rather ease in and see if it’s for you and that you actually enjoy it 🌟

We are completely relaxed at the farm - no judgement from us 💚

🌾🐴Meet Galway – Our Gentle Heart at Ballynaghfagh Farm 💞

As a member of the Ballynaghfagh herd, Galway has her own way of doing things. She’s not one for chaos or pony politics — she prefers peace, routine, and a good cuddle over any kind of commotion. She’s the pony who watches everything, thinking before reacting, always steady and reliable once she decides to trust you.

Her best friend, of course, is our beloved donkey 🫏, who’s rarely more than a few steps away. The two of them have formed a bond that perfectly represents what Ballynaghfagh is all about — kindness, companionship, and finding comfort in simple things. ✨

When it comes to her human family, Galway is pure affection. She greets everyone who walks past her with soft eyes and a hopeful expression — always ready for a pat, a brush, or a good cuddle.

Now that she’s back in work, Galway has stepped beautifully into her role as a quiet teacher. She’s helping our little riders understand how to use their aids correctly, guiding them to be gentle, patient, and balanced. She gives back exactly what she’s given — when she’s treated softly, she gives her whole heart. Watching her connect with riders reminds us every day why ponies like Galway are worth their weight in gold. 🌟

💛 Meet Max 💛

The calmest, most bomb-proof gelding you’ll ever meet — and also, quite possibly, the laziest boy in the arena 😂

Max has stolen the hearts of so many little riders. He’s patient, kind, and totally unbothered by the chaos around him — unless, of course, you’re asking him to trot… then he suddenly forgets how legs work 😅

But take him out into the veld, and it’s a whole different story — suddenly our chillest horse becomes the most adventurous one! 🌾

Max might move at his own pace, but he’s taught countless kids how to ride, laugh, and trust. He’s the true definition of a gentle teacher 💫

She’s big, beautiful, and full of personality—and if you’ve met her, you already know she’s one of a kind. From helping riders tackle their first jumps to showing them how to use their aids with confidence and feel, Belle is always there, giving her all.

She’s soft, sweet, and steady as they come. Belle has a way of making nervous riders feel brave, and unsure riders feel like they can take on anything. She’s been a huge part of so many journeys here—always patient, always kind, and always trying her heart out.

Belle isn’t just a horse—she’s a teacher, a confidence booster, and a total barn favorite. We’re so lucky to have her. 💫
