Maties Surfing Club was founded in 1977 and has been running strong ever since. The club brings together all water-sport enthusiasts focussing on surfing and an ever growing bodyboarding community. Maties Surfing offers an opportunity for members to meet other people passionate about the Ocean and for life-long friendships to be formed. The club promotes a healthy lifestyle as it is active through
out the year with opportunities for members to compete and to better their surfing ability. To keep members stoked, Maties Surfing offers:
• Bus Trips to Strand Beach twice weekly
• Surfing Lessons
• Mad Discounts and Deals with our Surfing Partners
• Surf Trips to ideal surfing spots along our magnificent coastline
• Parties not to be missed
• “Beginners Surfboards” available for use
As a sports club, Maties Surfing gives members a chance to try out for the Maties Surfing Team in which Men and Women get the chance to represent Stellenbosch University and compete against other Universities from across the country at the prestigious University Sport of South Africa (USSA) Surfing Tournament. The event has been running for many years and has had the likes of several professional South African Surfers competing in it. A free Maties Surfing T-shirt is handed to all members as well as a Maties Surfing sticker which needs to be placed on each member’s student card to allow them to use the club’s Bus Service.
