Hypermobility

Whenever we hear this word our mind often go to gymnasts or dancers because we think it means someone who is very flexible.

Yes! Hypermobility does give you some degree of flexibility, however, not in the muscles. This pertains to the joins and the ligaments surrounding the joints.

Flexibility is ideal in muscles and needs to be treated and corrected in the joint. Our joints need to be able to carry the load of our bodies in order to bend, climb stairs, dance, etc. if they are hyper mobile and too lax, it cannot do this without putting strain on those areas, especially during sporting activities where movements are repeated.

With the right exercise, this can be treated and loved activities can ,as it should, be painless.

INFANT MASSAGE CLASSES

Infant massage is a fabulous way to soothe a gassy/ colicky belly to ensure a restful nights sleep for both you and your baby. Extensive research shows that because touch is one of the most developed senses at birth, infant massage has enormous benefits for helping babies grow and thrive.

With each soothing stroke of the massage, oxytocin (the feel-good hormone) is released into your babies system as well as your own, creating a beautiful bond between you and your baby and resulting in decreased crying and fussiness, improved sleep, and enhances mental, physical and social development.

Another positive of infant massage is that it can help with postnatal depression or the risk thereof.

DADS! you can do this too! This is a brilliant way for dads to bond with their babies, especially those that are breastfed and spend a lot of time with their mummy's.

Infant massage classes will begin on the 👉1st of May👈

LOW MUSCLE TONE

Muscle tone enables us to assume various postures against gravity. it forms the basis of all movement.

Low muscle tone is a weakness of the muscles and a child inflicted with this condition is usually unable to perform normal everyday
activities in a well co-ordinated manner. In this ‘Television and computer game crazed’ age we live there has been a drastic increase in the prevalence of low muscle tone. Children with low muscle tone are usually physically unfit; they tire easily, have poor posture and are not willing to participate in physical activity.

Very often one cannot identify low muscle tone from appearances alone, as it is common for the muscles in the limbs to take on
a muscular appearance.

This is because:
1. The muscles that enable the child to assume and maintain postures against gravity are usually the deeper muscles (core stabilizers) close to the skeletal structures of the body.
2. The muscles that enable movement are the superficial muscles found further away from the skeletal structures of the body.
3. The child needs tone in both these types of muscles, and therefore when experiencing low muscle tone a weakness of the core muscles will occur. To compensate for this the superficial muscles used mainly for movement will increase in size to try and offer additional support. It is for this reason that children suffering from low muscle tone often take on an ‘athletic’ appearance.

In short, If motor skills are generally delayed, muscle tone is normally insufficient.

What is the importance of AGES & STAGES of Child Development?

From birth, it is important to enforce the benefits of exercise and lay down the ground work for a child to go on to lead a physically active lifestyle.

Children from the age of 2-3 years spend most of their waking hours engaging in play. This is an important part of learning about who they are, their environment as well as their movement abilities.
This play is the most vital part of a child's physical and cognitive growth. This age should be focused around mastering basic movements such as walking, running, kicking and throwing.

By age 4-5 years, most of a child's basic movement skills have been learnt and mastered.
This is the perfect age to develop all the motor skills that include jumping, hopping, skipping, catching ball and balancing. These skills become more refined with participating in team sports and structured activities.
At this age they are also discovering what it means to engage in play with other children, not just alongside other children, which is a fantastic opportunity for the encouragement of social skills such as sharing and taking turns, as well as celebrating in others successes.

From the age of 6 years onwards, it is important for children to be physically active to build strength, coordination and confidence.
This is the most important time to instill good attitudes toward physical activity and to encourage participation in it for the rest of their lives.
By this age, children should be competent in all movement skills and can make a conscious decision as to what kind of activity they want to participate in.

It is important to ensure that a qualified person is working with your child to assess their individual needs to design a programme based on enhancing THEIR physical abilities. Deficits in a child's gross motor development can affect both cognitive development as well as self-esteem, & if these deficits are not remediated, a child may experience lifelong problems with motor skills.

Dear Mommies,

You are IMPORTANT!
You MATTER!
You are WAY STRONGER than you think!

YOU also need to take CARE of YOURSELF!

It is so important that we as mothers make the time to do something for ourselves, something that will empower us both mentally and physically. BUT, having said this, I am well aware of the "mothers guilt" we all feel towards our little ones. SO, bring your little ones with!

Together, let us instill an importance of physical activity in our children, while working out to empower ourselves, enhancing their motor skills and BONDING with both our children and the mothers around us.

I will be posting class information, rates figures and how to book during this week. I am very excited and hope to share this excitement and journey will all of you!

In the meantime please show your love by liking and sharing my post❤️
