A video of young Tshepang Nyathi pouring water on a helpless, disabled person has surfaced on the internet.
In the week, south Africans were divided after the news of a young man, 21, was stabbed and unalived during the spring day celebrations that got out of hand in south Africa. Some blamed young Tshepang Nyathi for the unruly behaviour of the young lads on spring day. Others blamed the 53 year old man who stabbed him, arguing that it was just water that the groups of teens poured on him and he did not have to unalive anyone.
To add salt on the wound, a video of young Nyathi doing unkind things to the most vulnerable in society, has surfaced online. In the video, Nyathi is seen standing with a group of friends next to a small shopping complex, daring to harass anyone with water because "it is summer times". After Nyathi had said this while laughing, they spotted a disabled elderly person on a wheelchair passing on the other side of the road. They then picked up their buckets of water and went to pour water on the elderly person.
The poor man on the wheel chair was left there sitting on the wheelchair at night, soaking wet with no one to help him after Nyathi and friends had fled to where they were standing on the other side of the road. Even though he had some people who were helping him at first, those people ran away when Nyathi and friends came rushing to him carrying buckets of watter.
In the week after the news of the death of 21 year old Nyathi, many on social media showed lack of sympathy for the death of young Nyathi. This was due to the things that people saw the mobs of teens doing on spring day. Most of the people were more sympathetic to the old man that stabbed him than they were to the deceased. They argued that the old man did not deserve to be harassed and his act was self-defence.
With this video now on the surface, it makes the case of young Nyati even worse in the eyes of the public. With the smallest amount of decency and respect, which we all learn at home while growing up, young Nyathi and friends should have known better. They should have known not to make the life of the elderly person on the wheelchair, even more difficult than it already is. But they did not seem to care about him or anyone at all.
The parents of Tshepang Nyathi are demanding justice for the death of their child. They say they were just children playing and the 53 year old man had a lot other options to choose than to stab him the way he did. They demand that he be remanded in jail for his actions.
It's a difficult task to have to speak good about the dead, as african tradition requires, when you are faced with the not so good things that they did while they were living. This is the dilemma that most south Africans are struggling with at this point.
