The 2024 MIT100 Triathlon was a blast! π₯ π₯³
You came for a tropical island adventure and you got one.
A heartfelt βThank Youβ and congratulations to each one of you that finished ππ²πΊππ½π
Despite the breeze it was hot and humid as expected. Those who took on the long distance 100km certainly earned extra bragging rights as the day heated up into the afternoon.
The blue bay marine reserve water was shallow, making the magical coral reefs a challenge for both the organisers and swimmers alike. It was great to hear swimmers arriving back on the beach exclaiming with glee that they had seen turtles and many fish below π‘π’
The wind provided a well received gentle push swimming east, but a mouthful after the turn back west towards coconut island where a somewhat unusual island hop created a βcross country swimβ as Conrad Stoltz quipped π
Thank you swimmers for taking on the plan B swim that was forced on us by the exceptionally low tide conditions. It was scenic and certainly memorable and we hope you look at these scenic pictures with a sense of pride.
Onto the bike course and again it was a headwind out to the turn on the fast rolling open roads - then a helpful tailwind coming back up the climb.
We felt the pre race bike route reccie and ample road marking would make navigation easy but we also learned that we needed our helpful police and marshals to be better briefed to guide those who werenβt familiar with the course or their particular distance turns. From the smiles we witnessed on the road and in these images it seems most of you had things under control on the second leg of the race π΄ββοΈπ¨
On the multi surfaced adventure run the wind again provided some respite from the typical heat of the cane fields.
The two forest sections provided much needed shade and the road offered fleet footed respite from the heavier sand sections and rocky trails of the scenic run which the legend Julien Absalon racing his first triathlon said afterwards was his favourite part of the race. This is where those who managed their fluid intake and pacing scored. Despite being relatively short and flat, you could not attack this race without caution β οΈ π₯΅
Judging by the athlete feedback that we received on the day and in the week after, the new route was well received.
We saw many opportunities to improve in 2025 and already in conversation with Shandrani for access to a deeper swim course and new finish area. We are also shifting out the date by a week to avoid the new moon with its unpredictable tidal swings.
The finishline was a vibe, we loved chatting to many of you and hearing your positive feedback and constructive advice for next year. We will certainly take all of that on board and we welcome more.
We will add a french voice to the prize giving until Paul learns the language π but hopefully you understood most of what he said.
The kids splash & dash on Friday was small but hopefully the footage in our upcoming TV show will inspire other kids and adults to join a swim-run fun pre race next year.
Congratulations again to all finishers and those who made the podium. As the race grows we will introduce age group categories with special category medals.
We have so much to look forward to and are eternally grateful to you all for helping us shape a course & schedule that will deliver the most amazing island swim-bike-run experience possible.
Merci beaucoup π«Άπ½ποΈπ π¦€ππ²πΊ
And to our partners, without which this would not be possible. Thank you Infinity Factus, J&C Engineering, Mauritius Tourism and all our other generous partners.
