🏅 SPECIAL OLYMPICS SOUTH AFRICA — EVENT WRAP-UP
A WEEKEND OF SPORT, INCLUSION & CELEBRATION 🏅❤️

What a memorable weekend as athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and supporters came together for the Special Olympics South Africa event in Rustenburg.
The event was filled with excitement from the very beginning, with vibrant performances, music and entertainment helping to create an incredible atmosphere. 🎺🥁

The opening celebrations brought everyone together as we witnessed the lighting of the Special Olympics Flame of Hope, a symbol of unity, courage and the spirit of the athletes taking part. From the opening ceremony to the sporting action, the weekend was a celebration of what makes sport so special — bringing people together, creating opportunities and celebrating every athlete.

🏐 NETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

For us at Royal Bafokeng Netball, it was a privilege to be involved in the netball activities and officiating. The netball court was filled with determination, teamwork, energy, and plenty of smiles. From quick passes and defensive plays to goals and celebrations, the athletes gave their best and showed their love for the game. 🏐👏🏽
Beyond the competition, it was beautiful to see athletes enjoying themselves, supporting one another and creating memories on and off the court.

A big thank you to all the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, organisers, and supporters who contributed to making the event a success. Sport is for everyone. Every athlete has a place on the court. ❤️🏐

This weekend, Rustenburg, North West, comes alive with the spirit of sport, inclusion and opportunity as the Special Olympics bring athletes together across various sporting codes. ❤️
We are proud that Bafokeng Netball association (BNA) was invited to be part of this special event, with our team contributing as officials during the games.
These moments capture some of our team in action during the netball games — supporting the athletes, officiating the matches and playing our part in creating an inclusive sporting environment where everyone gets an opportunity to participate, compete and shine. 🏐👏🏾
A weekend that reminds us that sport is for everyone, and every athlete deserves a chance to be seen, supported and celebrated. 💙

2026 Spar National Netball Championships

Just like that, the tournament has ended. What an incredible week of netball in Cape Town. The Spar National Netball Championships are the largest national netball tournament in South Africa. It's a fantastic opportunity for Royal Bafokeng Netball Teams to compete at that level against the top netball districts in the country.

Both of our teams, the Under 21 and Senior teams, performed exceptionally well in their respective pools and divisions.

Royal Bafokeng U21: Recaps and Final Standings

- First time in the A-section pool after being newly promoted from the B-Section last year.
- The A-section division is considered the top in the country, dominated by high-performance players and teams.
- Our Under 21 team entered the tournament as underdogs to avoid relegation by staying in the A-section.
- The team performed outstandingly, defeating Cape Town, Ekurhuleni, and Dr. Kenneth Kaunda to remain in the division and qualify for the A-section U21 Semi-finals for the first time in Bafokeng’s history.
- Unfortunately, the team lost both the semi-final match and the bronze medal match, finishing the tournament in 4th place.
- Royal Bafokeng U21 team officially ranks #4 in South Africa.

Royal Bafokeng Senior Team: Recaps and Final Standings

- Our senior team participated in the B-Section, the same pool as last year.
- The Senior team also performed great in this year's tournament. Our main goal this year was to return home with a medal and improve last year's rankings.
- The team started the tournament on a high note after winning all their pool matches to top the pool and qualify for the Semi-finals against Harry-Gala.
- Unfortunately, the team lost the Semi-finals and played the bronze medal match against Westrand. Our seniors were victorious against Westrand to settle for position 3 with a Bronze medal.
- Royal Bafokeng Snr team played 6 tournament games, won 5, and lost 1.
- We officially present a bronze medal 🥉 and the 3rd-best-ranked team in our pool division.

Congratulations to both teams for the incredible performance and for making this year's tournament a success.
