Shakes Mashaba's children went on metro FM last night highlighting the plight of their father. To the uninitiated, he's a former national team coach and a football veteran. The man suffers from prostate cancer and TB, and they bemoan the treatment he receives at public facilities since he no longer has medical aid and are asking for donations.
This is unsustainable. The public donates, one year later he's sick once again then what? To what end will the public fill your coffers? I don't want to sound rude, but at times, uncomfortable truths must be spoken.

If you can't assist your old man as his kids, accept the situation for what it is. He should seek treatment at public facilities like millions of South Africans and endure what he must. The rude treatment is spared no one. The man is 75, and his afflictions are not unusual for someone his age. And I wish to debunk the assertion that he has done a lot for South African football. Bra Shakes was employed by SAFA when he was coach. He received a salary that he didn't share with strangers. It was not through sheer philanthropy on his part that he was coach, he was duly employed, and the public is not necessarily indebted to him. A lot of us carry our parents' burdens, do the same for your old man. Donations are not sustainable. I wish him healing.
