NEC Members Rebel Against Proposed Communications Policy..
A power struggle is brewing within the SAFA.net - South African Football Association (SAFA) as some National Executive Committee (NEC) members are up in arms over a proposed communications policy. The policy, which aims to regulate NEC members' public statements, has sparked accusations that SAFA president Danny Jordaan is trying to silence dissenting voices.
The policy item, titled "communications policy and the violation of the policy," is set to be discussed at the upcoming NEC meeting on June 20.
NEC members Gladwyn White, Bhudda Mathathe, and Orapeleng Setlhare claim the policy is aimed at gagging them for speaking out against SAFA's governance and alleged corruption.
Bhudda Mathathe "We are aware of this, and we know that they want to gag us. We will continue to fight for what is right… even when we are out."
Gladwyn White "Let them bring it on! Jordaan has reached a cul-de-sac, trapped in a thick web with nowhere to run."
Orapeleng Setlhare "The association embarrassed the football fraternity when it appeared in Parliament, and that it is time for new leadership that can take SA football to the next level."
The controversy comes amid allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement within SAFA. The association is already under investigation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and has faced criticism from the parliamentary sports committee.
