We had such a great day at the Medieval Fayre this weekend!
Thanks to Meryl and her team for once again organizing such a well-run and well attended event; we loved meeting you all and showing you how it's done in the world of horseback archery!

The Phoenix team worked like a well-oiled machine - thank you to each one of you for braving the freezing morning temperatures and working so hard all day!

Petro - for manning the stall and sorting out payments and admin.
Stephan - for safely taking our horses home, and helping out with the public when we were busy with demonstrations.
Andrie - for helping to keep the queue under control, especially when we were short-handed at demo time!
Cyrus - what a rock! Helping with the horses and setting up in the morning, helping the public AND taking part in the demonstrations!
Nicolene - taking part in her first demonstrations, and working all day at the stall (her patience with the little ones is legendary)

And lastly, our two stars Marna and Jacques - they performed beautifully in both demos and worked tirelessly with the public at the archery stall.

See you all again next year!

It's that time of year again...Medieval Fayre magic!

The archers are ready to entertain you - mounted archery demonstrations at 11h00 and 14h00.

Please pop by our stall and shoot the breeze. Or the targets, whatever takes your fancy.

MATCH REPORT: IHAA R&R BAREBOW AUTUMN HUNT 2026

Barebow Mounted Archers hosted the first Hunt competition at their new venue this weekend.

Experienced archers as well as first timers to the hunt track got to test their skills in the 2* Canter hunt track and the 1* Trot Hunt.

The Canter Hunt track was 650m long with 12 targets including a 35m long distance shot, jump shot and a required lead change.

The Trot Hunt was 400m long with 8 targets including a jump shot!

Congratulations to all the riders, you and your horses were brilliant!!

Congratulations to our champions, you were amazing and it was great to see you all in action!!

Today we welcomed two willing learners from the North West - Charlie and Jacqui from Harties Mounted Archery, who got to grips with shooting in a trot for the first time, under the guidance of Phoenix instructor Jacques Horn.

SANESA Gauteng Qualifier 2 took place on Sunday 17th May, at Botha Wil Stables.

Two Phoenix riders participated:

Malaika Skosan, riding Max, took 1st place in the Tower High School Level 1. They withdrew half way through the Raid 23 event, as Max was not feeling 100% sound. Well done Malaika on putting your horse first!

Talitha Schoeman rode Braveheart in the High School Level 7 category, and achieved first place in the Tower90 event, and second in the Raid 23.

Congratulations to both these young ladies!

Results for Phoenix riders at the Gauteng Mounted Archery Association - GMAA Qualifier 3 held at Botha Wil Stables on Sunday 10th May:

Jacques Horn
🥇1st Place - Tower90
🏅11th Place - Raid234

Jacques took a fall on the third run of his Raid, and had to withdraw from further competition. Despite that, he still managed a 5th place overall in the Senior category.

Nicolene Wessels
This was Nicolene's second official qualifier, which she entered as a non-competitor. She earned her first MAASA Student Archer grading (SA1) at this competition. Well done Nicolene!
