The Crusader Rugby Club surely ranks among the top South African clubs and remains a pillar of strength of Eastern Province rugby. It has a rich history and a culture of playing the game hard and tough but always fair. Our Springbok’s, provincial players and all those who ever turned out for Crusaders, from the first team to the fourth and juniors, have turned this club into a monument. Those who
play for the club in its 125th year are equally privileged to follow in those footsteps. Coaches, supporters, referees and many others played a role in this wonderful story. But the club would not have reached this milestone had it not been for our sponsors; all those business people, company executives and community leaders who made it possible for us to continue the work and the fun that began in 1887. Popularly known as Crusaders, often abbreviated to ‘Saders’, the club has had a few name changes over the years. It has been known, officially, as the Crusader Football club, the Crusader Rugby Football Club and the Crusader Rugby Club. For a while, from 1985 to 2005, it competed as the Crusader-Technikon Rugby Club.
