Bridgton RFC Bridgton Rugby Football Club

19/06/2026

To all our loyal supporters, players, sponsors, and the Bridgton RFC family:

Following the dispute regarding tonight's fixture between Bridgton RFC and Silver Stars RFC, the matter was formally referred to SWD Rugby Union for arbitration. Bridgton RFC fully supported the arbitration process and committed itself to the Union's final and binding decision.

The arbitration ruling directed that the fixture proceed tonight, Friday, 19 June 2026, at Bridgton Sports Grounds. In accordance with that ruling, Bridgton RFC fulfilled its obligations and presented itself for the scheduled fixtures against Silver Stars RFC.

Unfortunately, our opponents did not pitch for the fixture. In accordance with SWD Rugby Union's rules and regulations, the appointed match officials subsequently blew off the games.

We sincerely apologize to everyone who came out to support the club, purchased tickets, and made arrangements to attend tonight's matches. We understand the disappointment and frustration caused by these circumstances.

Supporters who purchased tickets for tonight's fixture are advised that their tickets will remain valid and may be used at our next home game.

We would like to thank our supporters, sponsors, players, volunteers, and the broader Bridgton community for their unwavering support throughout this matter. Your loyalty and commitment to the club are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Bridgton Sports Grounds soon.

Bridgton RFC remains committed to upholding the values of rugby, respecting the decisions of the Union, and serving our community with pride.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Happy Youth Day πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

Today, we celebrate the energy, potential, and resilience of our youth. We honour the sacrifices made by young people who helped shape the future of our country and recognise the important role our youth continue to play in building a better tomorrow.

Yet, as we celebrate, we cannot ignore a growing concern that many communities, including Oudtshoorn, are facing. More and more, we are witnessing our young people losing their way, becoming exposed to violence, negative influences, and circumstances that threaten their future.

Last night, one of our rugby players was stabbed at our sports field. By God's grace, a thick jacket prevented what could have been a far more serious injury. While we are grateful that he is safe, the incident leaves us asking difficult questions. How is it that our youth are no longer safe in places designed to nurture, develop, and protect them?

Sport, and rugby in particular, has long been a vehicle to keep young people engaged, disciplined, and away from trouble. Our fields should be places of opportunity, friendship, and growthβ€”not places where fear and violence are becoming part of the conversation.

This is not about pointing fingers. It is about recognising that intervention is needed. Families, schools, sporting organisations, community leaders, businesses, and government must work together to create environments where our youth can thrive and where positive opportunities outweigh negative choices.

Our young people are not the problemβ€”they are our future. But they need guidance, support, mentorship, and safe spaces now more than ever.

On this Youth Day, let us move beyond celebration and commit ourselves to action. Let us invest in our youth, protect them, and help them find purpose, direction, and hope.

Because every young person deserves the chance to become the best version of themselves.
