About Durban Surf Lifesaving Club

Durban Surf Lifesaving Club was formed 90 years ago on Tuesday 28th June 1927 at a meeting in the Mayor’s parlour and is proud to be recognised as the first lifesaving club to be formed, not only in Durban, but in South Africa. The club is now a globally recognised powerhouse in the world of Surf Lifesaving, first touring internationally when the sports embargo w

as lifted in 1993 and going on to dominate the world by winning two World Club Championships in 1998 and 2004, captained and coached by the present SA Swimming coach Graham Hill, along with Brett Pengelly and Julian Taylor. Behind the scenes of lifesaving competition comes the real purpose of the sport – to be at your very fittest and fastest to save lives on the beach. Since its inception Durban Surf has been located at North Beach, Durban, a magnificent playground for ocean and surf enthusiasts.

🚨 DURBAN SURF JLA/LA COURSE 🚨

Ready to take the next step in your lifesaving journey? Join us for our Junior Lifeguard Award (JLA) and Lifeguard Award (LA) Course running from 6 – 12 July at Durban Surf Lifesaving Club.

📅 Course Dates: 6 – 12 July
📍 Venue: Durban Surf Lifesaving Club
💰 Cost: R4,500

The course fee includes:
✅ All study material
✅ Durban Surf club joining fee
✅ Expert instruction and assessment preparation

📋 Requirements:
🔹 JLA candidates must be 14 years old on the day of the examination
🔹 LA candidates must be 16 years old on the day of the examination

📄 To register, applicants must submit:
✅ A completed application form
✅ A signed indemnity form
✅ A copy of their ID

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop lifesaving skills, gain nationally recognised qualifications, and become part of one of South Africa’s most respected surf lifesaving clubs.
