FUNDING OPPORTUNITY | SORGHUM TRUST

The Sorghum Trust is inviting applications for projects that can contribute to the development of a stronger and more sustainable South African sorghum industry.

This opportunity is particularly relevant to organisations undertaking research, innovation, industry development, market information or transformation initiatives that can demonstrate a clear and practical benefit to the sorghum sector.

A strong application should clearly show:
- What industry challenge is being addressed?
- What will the project deliver, and over what timeframe?
- Which parts of the sorghum industry will benefit?
- What will the full project cost, and how much is being requested from the Trust?
- What other organisations or funders are contributing?
- How will the results be shared and used across the sorghum industry?

The Trust considers applications from legal entities, with research proposals potentially being reviewed by South African experts. Applicants must also demonstrate their capacity and involvement in the South African sorghum industry.

Areas applicants should pay particular attention to

The application requires information on:
1. Research & project impact – including the expected contribution to the sorghum industry.
2. Industry transformation – including the applicant's BBBEE, equity, ownership and skills-development framework.
3. Knowledge sharing – applicants must explain how project results will be distributed to relevant industry stakeholders.
4. Budget justification – all requested costs must be motivated, with capital expenditure and overseas travel specifically identified where applicable.

⚠️ Important for research applicants: The Trust's conditions state that intellectual property capable of legal protection arising from Trust-funded research will, unless otherwise agreed by the Trustees, be released into the public domain.

Karan Beef Farming is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Holding Station Manager to join our team in Graaff-Reinet.

This is a key operational role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and professional handling of cattle from receiving and inspection through to movement and preparation for the feedlot.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
✔️ Grade 12 / Matric
✔️ Minimum 5 years' experience in cattle handling, feedlot operations or livestock management
✔️ Previous supervisory or management experience
✔️ Sound knowledge of cattle behaviour, animal welfare and livestock handling
✔️ Knowledge of biosecurity procedures and livestock identification systems
✔️ Strong leadership and people-management skills
✔️ Excellent planning, problem-solving and decision-making ability
✔️ Strong attention to detail and communication skills
✔️ Computer literate
✔️ Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport
✔️ Willingness to work overtime, weekends, public holidays and standby
