Let’s break it down:
People quote this verse like it’s a promise of victory. Like strength means winning. But Paul wrote those words in a season of hardship, and what he was really saying is: I have learned to be content, I have learned to endure, because my strength doesn’t come from my circumstances.
That’s what I want my swimmers to understand.
Strength isn’t just the PR, the podium, the best time on the board. It’s showing up to the set you don’t want to do. It’s holding form on the last 50 when your body’s done arguing. It’s the plateau that doesn’t move for weeks and you-keep showing up anyway.
So when you’re mid-set and it feels impossible, that’s not the moment strength runs out. That’s the moment it shows up from somewhere other than you.
