Our very well travelled medicine kit put together for us by our helpful GP, arrived back with us unused (apart from some allergy tablets that we had to take for the terrible Serengeti dust). It was always going to be an insurance policy, and we are grateful that we remained in good health and had no need for it on our trip 🙌

All good things must come to an end, and we are happy to have arrived back safely in the town of Knysna, where our journey to Northern Tanzania started 70 days ago.

We said goodbye to beautiful Namibia and after 65 days of travelling Southern Africa, we re-entered South Africa through the Noordoewer/Vioolsdrift border. Formalities on both sides took about 30 mins in total.

We didn’t have a drop of rain for the entire 65 days of our journey, but it started to pour as soon as we reached the Northern Cape.

We stayed in the campsite of Kroon Lodge in Kamieskroon and were so grateful that we were camping in a van, and not a tent! The wind and rain lasted all night.

The ladies ablutions at Kroon Lodge campsite was really clean and well equipped - some of the nicest communal ablutions we’ve had on this trip. The campsite itself was very tight but it was fine for an overnight stop.

Investigating a worrying noise underneath the van that luckily turned out to be a stone that got stuck in the suspension, and eventually came out by itself.
This was near the garage in Betta, where we had been a few years ago. Things have changed a lot - we were quite surprised to see that Betta had built a whole new restaurant and shop selling homemade game pies, cakes and they had a good a la carte menu too.

On the way South between Sossusvlei and Betta on the C27, we found a little campsite called Tolous Lodge . Owner Bennie had built some cool little chalets, with twin beds, bathroom, and each with a sunset viewing deck overlooking the NamibRand desert area.
Like many other places we’ve been to, we didn’t need a room but Bennie allows campers to use the bathroom in the chalets and sleep in their own tent/camper.

Tolou’s was a lovely little find, with a very well equipped communal kitchen for campers to use, a well stocked and well priced honesty bar and everything was squeaky clean!

It is a great little stopover on this route and very budget friendly at NAD/ZAR150 pp for camping and to sleep in the chalets were very reasonably priced too.
