With all the nervous system regulation talk, I think we’ve accidentally made it sound like the goal is to be calm all the time.
It’s not.
You’re allowed to feel angry when something crosses a line.
Anxious when things feel uncertain.
Sad when something hurts.
Activated when something matters.
That doesn’t mean you’re dysregulated or “doing the work wrong.”
Regulation isn’t becoming unbothered. It’s being able to feel what you feel, notice what’s happening, and find your way back without getting completely lost in it.
I think the better question is less:
“How do I stop getting triggered?”
And more:
“How do I support myself when I am?”
