"It's only an easy run, I don't need to take anything with me.",
"I will just have a protein shake after my bike, I am trying to lose weight",
"I am going to restrict myself during these next set of training sessions, I need to get to race weight."
These are things I often here from athletes who are guided by misinformed sources. Ultimately, this is to the detriment of not only their performance but their long term success in sport. As Mariella Sawyer, an accomplished dietician, says, an athlete must fuel for performance and that means both in training and on race day.
