Reflecting on a Meaningful World Drowning Prevention Day: Empowering Our Youth Through Water Safety Education
Today marked a truly inspiring and impactful experience as we took part in World Drowning Prevention Day by delivering a WaterSmart presentation at Marlboro Gardens Secondary School, located near Alexandra and Sandton.
The opportunity to give back to the community through education and awareness around water safety was both fulfilling and necessary. Our goal was not just to inform, but to empower learners with knowledge that can save lives — and the response was incredible. The learners were actively engaged, enthusiastic, and showed a genuine interest in understanding how to stay safe around water.
As we interacted with the students, it became clear how important such outreach programs are. Many of them had never received any formal water safety training before, which made our presence even more meaningful. From demonstrating basic safety practices to explaining the importance of respecting water bodies, the session was well received and left a lasting impression.
We are proud to have played a role in this global movement to reduce drowning incidents, particularly in vulnerable communities. Thank you to everyone who supported and made the event possible — especially the school staff, facilitators, and partners who collaborated to ensure the success of this initiative.
Together, we’re creating a ripple effect of awareness that can save lives. 💧🌍💙
