Sunflower Women Football Club (Pty) Ltd is a women-led sports development company
with a 29-year legacy of developing elite female football players while driving social and
economic transformation through sport. Founded in 1996 in Hammarsdale, reminder: Hammarsdale had been affected by political
violence. Sunflower WFC emerged as a beacon of hope, using football as a structured
vehicle for skills development, youth empowerment, enterprise development and
community upliftment. In 2018, the organisation transitioned into a Private Company (Pty) Ltd to strengthen
governance, unlock commercial opportunities, and enable structured participation in
Enterprise & Supplier Development (ESD) value chains.

What a weekend of commitment, teamwork and determination from our Sunflower family! 🌻🔥

🏆 JUNIOR TEAM — VICTORY!
Our Junior Team secured an impressive 3–1 victory against Juventus Ladies from Durban North in the Greater Durban LFA. The match was played at Northlands Girls High School.

👏 A fantastic performance from our young stars, showing courage, discipline and the true Sunflower spirit!

💪 SENIOR TEAM — HARD-FOUGHT DRAW!
Our Senior Team battled to a competitive 2–2 draw against Newcastle Revolution at Tills Crescent,after trailing with 2-0 in the first half.

The result reflects the fighting spirit of our ladies, who continued to work hard until the final whistle. 💛💚

For every player who puts on these colours, you are carrying the name, history, pride and legacy of Sunflower Women Football Club. You are wearing something that represents a journey that began in 1996 — a journey built by the women and girls who came before you, who gave their time, talent, sweat, tears and sacrifices to build this institution.

When you wear this badge, wear it with respect. Wear it with honour. Wear it with pride. 🌻

Remember that this jersey has a story. There were players before you who wore these colours on difficult days, travelled long distances, played without recognition, fought for opportunities and continued to believe in the dream. Some of them went on to represent their provinces and their country. Others simply gave everything they had for SunflowerWFC.

Today, you are the custodians of that legacy.

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO OUR REFEREES 💛💚⚽

To all the referees and assistant referees who gave their time, energy and commitment to make the SunflowerWFC Legacy Cup a success — THANK YOU! 🙏🏽

Football cannot grow without people who are willing to serve the game, and referees are an essential part of that journey. Your decisions, discipline and courage helped us create a tournament that we can be proud of.

Today, we would like to give special recognition to a 14-year-old young referee who stepped forward and showed tremendous courage and potential. At just 14 years old, he refereed two matches and also served as an assistant referee in other games during the Legacy Cup — and he did exceptionally well. 👏🏽👏🏽

Young man, we want you to know that we see you, we believe in you, and we are proud of you. 🌟

Every great referee starts somewhere. Today it may be a community tournament; tomorrow it could be a professional match; and one day, we hope to see you standing on the biggest stages of South African football — even officiating in the PSL. 🏟️⚽

To all the young boys and girls watching him: follow his example. Get involved. Learn the Laws of the Game. Respect the game. Work hard. Take every opportunity to develop yourself.

The SunflowerWFC Legacy Cup was not only about winning trophies. It was also about creating opportunities, developing people and planting seeds for the future of football. 🌻
