United Shotokan-Ryu Karate United Shotokan-Ryu (USR) is an independent Shotokan karate
group formed in South Africa in 2018. "Traditional Budo Karate-Do - Contemporary Approach".

Emphasis is placed on the practice of karate as a form of Japanese Budo.

Congratulations to all our competitors and medallists! Jointly ECSR & Rhodes karateka amassed a total of 22 medals! Winning a medal at this level is an outstanding achievement, but beyond this, and in the long term, participation encourages the building of a greater karate community, friendship, personal development and increased self-confidence. The organisers of the 2026 WUKF South African National Championships & Afro-Asia Open are looking forward to welcoming Sensei Rishi Bundhoo and his Federation from Mauritius to our annual celebration of WUKF karate and kobudo. This will be the first time a Mauritian Team (Shotokan Martial Arts Federation) will be attending the Championships. We wish them all the best in their final preparations and travels.
