Our instructors are father and son duo, Schalk van der Merwe (Snr) 2nd Dan and Schalk van der Merwe (Jnr) 2nd Dan. Tenshinkan Karate is a Japanese karate style with its headquarters in Japan. The founder and originator of Tenshinkan Karate is Kancho Mamoru Miwa, who is the World Chief Instructor for this style. Tenshinkan Karate South Africa is a registered and affiliated branch of Tenshinkan Kara
te Japan. Tenshinkan Karate is unique and incorporates three different styles into one:
- Karate – form (blocking, punching, kicking and avoidance techniques), kata and kumite.
- Goshinjutsu – a combination of karate and Aikido and JiuJitsu techniques.
- Kobujutsu Karate – weapons training. At Tenshinkan Karate we accept students of five years and older. We also encourage adults to join regardless of age, as everybody can benefit from the training.
