Chiefs Confirm Absence Of Four Players

Kaizer Chiefs have given an injury update, confirming that Tebogo Postane, the versatile Dillan Solomons, and midfielders, George Matlou and Mduduzi Mdantsane didn’t travel with the team to Turkiye.

Amakhosi are currently being put through their paces by the club’s new technical team around head coach Nasreddine Nabi, but there were some notable absentees from the squad.

The club’s long-term physiotherapist David Milner confirmed that the four players are in different stages of their recovery, with Potsane the closest to returning.

“Tebogo’s recovery from groin surgery is progressing well and he is expected to be back in training in about two weeks,” Milner told the club’s media team.

“Dillon had shoulder surgery, so he won’t be ready for roughly another nine weeks, although he has started running and rehabilitation.

“George is only expected back in October following his knee surgery. However, I am happy to report that he is in the gym and doing some light running.

Finally, Chiefs also confirmed that Mdantsane suffered a broken jaw in a recent motor vehicle accident.

“He had surgery and, if all goes well, is expected back in 3 months’ time,” the physio concluded.

Chippa Coach Explains Jali Signing

Chippa United co-coach Thabo September has explained how and why the Chilli Boys went after Andile Jali, insisting his influence goes beyond contributions on the pitch.

Jali, 34, was without a club after leaving Moroka Swallows following the club’s financial troubles in December.

His agent Mike Makaab did confirm that Jali was considering retirement but opted to go again, when Chippa Mpengesi came calling – with September explaining what the veteran midfielder will add to the squad.

“Andile was retired in his mind already so we had to have a talk with him,” he said during the graduation of the CAF B Licence course.

“He’s not just an ordinary player, he’s a player who can make a big influence in the squad, so we want that.

“We know his legs are not going to carry him the whole season, so we have to manage that.

“But the influence he is going to bring, because we’ve got a lot of young players we’ve brought through this season, he’s going to help in terms of guiding them.

“He has a big, big role to play for us this season and he’s a home boy from the Eastern Cape, that’s also going to help the club in terms of supporters, to bring in the numbers in the stadium.

“He’s playing a major role for us, it’s not just about football.

CT City Reach Agreement With Ex-Maritzburg Striker

Cape Town City have reached an agreement with former Maritzburg United striker Amadou Soukouna.

Soukouna, 32, played for the Team of Choice for two seasons between 2021 and 2023 before departing for Asia. He is currently without a club and looks set to be back in South African top-flight football ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The former France youth international recently left Thailand giants True Bangkok United after one season with the club. He made 12 appearances and scored three goals.

I understands that Soukouna, who is of French and Malian origin, has reached an agreement with the Blue Army and he is expected to join the Mother City outfit. Few things still needs to be iron out on the deal, and he is viewed as a reinforcement after the departure of Angolan Jo Paciência, as reported by this publication.

The Paris-born attacker will be up against the likes of Khanyisa Mayo, Darwin Gonzalez, Jaedin Rhodes and Luke Daniels in the City striking force, even though he can also play as a right winger.

During his time in South Africa, Soukouna made 51 appearances in all competitions and scored 11 goals.

Mthethwa reveals he joined Richards Bay for 'a fresh start

Richards Bay's new signing Tlakusani Mthethwa wants to help the club avoid relegation next season and feels they have enough quality to finish in the top eight.

Mthethwa was among the club's new signings unveiled on Wednesday during a press conference, where they also announced Phakwe GAS as their main sponsor.

But joining the club that avoided relegation by a whisker when they won the PSL promotional playoffs is not a concern for the 31-year-old as he feels the club will be different in the new season.

“Looking at the structure they have implemented now, I don't see ourselves fighting for relegation,” Mthethwa explained to the media.

“We have good signings and I'm here to work and ensure the team doesn't go where it was before. Even last season, they had good players; we have to work hard to achieve our objective.”

After spending five seasons with Moroka Swallows before they sold their Premiership status to Marumo Gallants, the midfielder also revealed the events that led to his departure from the Birds.

“The move to Richards Bay, honestly speaking, was not an easy one for me, because I had a contract with Swallows, so I was supposed to take that contract to Marumo,” he said.

“Richards Bay were interested in my services and were calling me. At first, I didn't entertain it because it was not announced then that Swallows were sold.

“And at the same time, I didn't want to jump to conclusions with regard to my future until my agent [Jazzman Mahlakgane] called me and said he was talking with teams and he said this was the right move for me.

“I needed a fresh start away from Gauteng, so I decided to come here... I said, let me go and have a fresh start in a different environment.”

Mthethwa's time at Swallows ended on a sour note due to crippling financial problems last season and he is happy to have joined a team such as the Natal Rich Boyz, where he will not have to deal with unpaid salaries.

Dolly To Explore Options Despite SSU Interest

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Keagan Dolly looks set to explore options outside South Africa despite the recent talks with SuperSport United.

Dolly, 31, was approached by Gavin Hunt’s side swiftly after his contract with Kaizer Chiefs expired amid reported interest from Cape Town City and AmaZulu, and with the player passing his medical it appeared the move was imminent.

However, I believe that the two parties have decided not to proceed with the deal with his agency SSG now exploring options abroad.

“There’s no agreement with SuperSport United at the moment, we’re looking at other offers now outside of the country, as he’s fit after recovering from his broken toe and ready to get back to what he does best,” a representative of his agency confirmed.

While Hunt was keen to work with the experienced talent who won the DStv Premiership, CAF Champions League and Telkom Knockout during his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, it is now likely Dolly will be outside of South Africa for the 2024/25 season.

Dolly who spent three seasons in the French top-flight with Montpellier had career-best figures at Chiefs with 67 games, 14 goals and 11 assists.

Pitso Sends Message To Rulani After Wydad Move

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has congratulated Rulani Mokwena on his move to Wydad Club Athletic.

The Moroccan giants announced the signing of Mokwena on Thursday after he arrived in Casablanca via private jet, as reported by iDiski Times.

Mokwena is expected to be officially unveiled by the club this evening, after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal which is said to include a one-year option.

Mosimane, who himself was the first South African tactician to coach in North Africa, has wished his former protege all the best.

“Congratulations Coach Rulani. Big opportunity for you and many SA Coaches. All the best in Casa,” he wrote on social media.

“South Africa has got lot of talented Coaches, and Coach Fadlu Davids never disappointed there.”

Mokwena parted ways with Sundowns earlier in the month despite winning the African Football League and the DStv Premiership, with the club citing “objectives and expectations of the Club” as reason.

Rulani – Why I Joined Wydad

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has explained why he decided to join Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club as new head coach.

Mokwena, 37, joined Wydad on a three-year deal until 2027, just days after his departure from Sundowns.

After leaving Chloorkop, he immediately became a prime target for the club, and several North African giants, with Algerian club USM Alger having made an approach, but rejected.

He was unveiled on Thursday evening in front of a packed crowd and explained he opted to join The Red Castle because he felt flattered by the amount of interest the club showed in him.

“Because they chose me,” he said.

“They showed so much interest in me, they were on top of my agent, on top of me.

“One wise guy said to me ‘go where you’re loved’ and I feel loved and appreciated by the Wydad fans and that’s why I’m here.

“Of course, who says no to a club like Wydad? It’s impossible. And the offer was also too good to refuse (laughs).

“But I’m happy to be here, I’m very happy to be here.”

Mokwena has a tough project ahead of him after the “sleeping giant” finished in fifth place, outside the CAF inter-club competition spots in 2023/24.
