๐Ÿ†SZN2 AWARDS PHOTOS ARE LIVE ๐Ÿ“ธ

We hosted more than 200 Rescue Sport Series community members at the Salt River Rooftop Terrace on Saturday, 30 May, to celebrate an incredible season of lifesaving sport.

Over the course of the evening, more than R350,000 in prize money was awarded, alongside over 280 certificates and more than 110 trophies recognising the achievements of athletes, clubs, officials, volunteers, and community members throughout the season.

But the real value of the Rescue Sport Series goes far beyond the awards. It is the connection, passion, and sense of belonging shared between our members, clubs, and wider community. We know we have something special here, and Season 2 was another reminder of what can be achieved when people come together through sport.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening so memorable. We look forward to welcoming you back for Season 3.

๐Ÿ“ท Award winner photos are now available via our Facebook Albums. Thank you Lisa Vickers for the great shots! ๐Ÿ“ธ

INSIDE THE SERIES โ€” ELZAINE RASS ๐Ÿ’ฌ

โ€œMy moment this season was definitely working as a lifeguard through the festive season at Strandfontein Beach, doing multiple rescues and help-outs in rough surf.

It was one of those moments where everything just came together, and I had that feeling of โ€˜this is exactly why I do this.โ€™ The atmosphere, the team energy, and pushing through the challenge made it really special.โ€

โ€œStrandfontein Surf Lifesaving Club has been such a big part of my season. The support, motivation, and sense of community have really helped me grow both as an athlete and as a person.

Having teammates who push and encourage each other makes every event even more meaningful.โ€

โ€œMy favourite Rescue Sport Series event this season was Western Cape Champs. What made it stand out was placing on the podium for the first time, coming second in sprints and beach flags.

It really showed me that hard work pays off, and itโ€™s all about having fun in what you do at all times. Itโ€™s one of those events Iโ€™ll remember for a long time.โ€

INSIDE THE SERIES โ€” ERIN LANGENHOVEN ๐Ÿ’ฌ

โ€œAt Western Cape Surf Champs, I did my first Iron and I was super nervous. I had the whole Big Bay team supporting me, and when I came out of the water and realised I had placed third, it was such a special moment.

Having that support around me reminded me that I can do this, and moments like that are exactly why I love the sport.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m really proud to be part of Big Bay. This season especially, theyโ€™ve had my back through all the ups and downs and have constantly supported and pushed me to be better.

Iโ€™ve loved having the opportunity to share my Stillwater knowledge with younger athletes, grow together, and have fun along the way. My teammates and coaches have shaped me into a stronger leader and taught me to keep pushing myself no matter what.โ€

โ€œWestern Cape Stillwater Champs was definitely my favourite, especially the line throw event. Everything just came together perfectly, from the wind-up to the throw, to pulling Abigail in.

It was one of those moments where everything clicked. Having Big Bay cheering us on and seeing everyoneโ€™s reactions gave me goosebumps.โ€

INSIDE THE SERIES โ€” KIRA BESTER ๐Ÿ’ฌ

โ€œOne moment that stood out for me was when, at the Fish Hoek competition during the Open ski race, a Clifton competitor, Bryan Allott, gave Sam Mocke his paddle after Sam snapped it at the start.

Sam was in contention to win, and Bryan saw a way to help a friend, from another club, and did it. It was just so cool to see.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s been an awesome experience with and watching how people regularly volunteer their time without hesitation to help out with even the smallest challenges.

The Clifton team dynamic made racing so much smoother. It took away the stress of the controlled variables and allowed me to focus on going out there and giving my races everything.

Itโ€™s a really freeing feeling knowing you have so much support behind you.โ€

โ€œI really enjoyed the new style of Taplin this season. It makes it faster and tighter on the line, and it allows people like myself to give everything on my leg without worrying about saving energy for the run.

I like that kind of racing.โ€
