Kensington Cricket Club seals first win of the season, as Hanover Park CC avoids 1C relegation!
In a weekend filled with twists and turns in the 1C Division, Kensington Cricket Club finally managed to get their first win of the season against Blue Bells Cricket Club.
After winning the toss on Saturday morning, Kensington CC captain Mujahid Dramat decided to bowl first at the Kensington Cricket ground. The Kensington CC bowling line up did very well to restrict Blue Bells to 173 all out. The main Destroyer in Chief for KCC was veteran leg spinner Shamiel Dramat, who bamboozled the Blue Bells batters as he claimed figures of 6/56.
Dramat then came out to open the batting for KCC and had a solid opening stand of 66 runs with Luke Salie, who was the main aggressor in the partnership. Salie brought up his 3rd fifty of the season as he sent the ball to all parts of the ground. His knock of 60 off 40 balls, included 4 sixes and 4 fours and laid the foundation in the run chase. The rest of the top order and middle order carried on the momentum and despite a late flurry of wickets, KCC managed to chase down the target with 4 wickets to spare and sealed their first win of the season with a bonus point.
On Sunday, Kensington CC hosted Hanover Park CC, in what was a Do or Die game for the Away team. The result of the previous day against Blue Bells CC meant that Hanover Park now had a chance of staying in the 1C Division, if they beat Kensington CC.
The toss was won by Hanover Park CC and they decided to bowl first. In contrast to the previous day, Kensington CC got off to a more cautious start with the bat, as conditions for batting proved more diffcult on a used pitch. The KCC top and middle order batters had many starts but none of the batters managed to capitalize as wickets fell on a regular basis. But in an 8th wicket stand of 56 runs, Kyle Sables and Mishal Davids managed to help KCC post a respectable total of 146 all out. Sables and Davids batted beautifully as they used both skill and power to manipulate the ball, in their knocks of 36 and 22 runs respectively.
Hanover Park CC came out to bat and it was very clear from the onset that they aimed to win the game as quickly as possible. Wickets fell regularly but the Hanover Park captain still managed to score at a rapid rate as they took advantage of the powerplay. KCC captain Mujahid Dramat, then managed to pick up the key wicket of the Hanover Park captain, which slowed down the progress of the HP batters. Dramat bowled with great skill as he managed to pick up 4 wickets for 54 runs.
It was a very nervy finish for Hanover Park CC with wickets falling regularly and some dropped catches. But in the end, Hanover Park managed to win the game with 2 wickets to spare and with a bonus point. The result meant that Hanover Park CC sealed their place in the 1C Division at the expense of Blue Bells Cricket Club, who go down to the 1D Division with Kensington CC.
