Last night was the big finish to our Term 2 Swiss. Well done to everyone who took part this term. 👏🏼💪🏼

♟️ Round 5 of our Swiss Tournament brought a slightly different atmosphere to the club last night. With the winter chill settling in ❄️, we were missing a number of our regular faces, which made for a more relaxed and social evening of chess than the fiercely contested penultimate round we had anticipated.

🤧😷 We certainly missed everyone who couldn't make it and hope that anyone feeling under the weather is resting up and ready for next week's final round.💪🏼

🏆 A special mention to Josiah. Not feeling his best, he got out of bed, arrived at the club, played a quick and clinical game, collected the point, and headed home. Efficient, effective, victorious. 👏♟️

😊 While some familiar faces were absent, we were delighted to welcome Saihana to the club for the first time. It was wonderful having you join us, and we hope to see you become a permanent face across the board and part of our growing chess family. ♟️💙

🤝 Thanks you to everyone who came along and helped create another enjoyable evening of chess!

♟️🏆 **It’s that time of the week again… Tournament Update!** 🏆♟️

We cannot believe **Round 4 is already over**… and there are only **2 rounds to go!** 😲🔥 This term’s Swiss Tournament really is moving at high speed!

Our evening was made a little sweeter by our birthday boy, **Luca**, who just turned **9 years old!** 🎉♟️

Thanks, Luca, for the incredible **special edition chocolate chess board** — and what a masterpiece it was! 🍫♟️ The board and pieces looked so realistic that for a moment, players had to decide whether to **play the position… or eat it** 🤔😆

Thank you to The Ashgars for sharing the celebration with the club and adding a little sweetness to our night. 💙

The tournament is heating up as we head into the **final two rounds** — who will take top honours? 👀🏆

🏆♟️ A Great Day of Chess in Stanger! ♟️🏆

It was a beautiful day for chess at People’s Park, Stanger yesterday. ☀️♟️

Despite an extended delay to get things started, the day turned out to be a memorable one — beautiful weather, a fantastic outdoor venue, tasty lunch provided by the municipality, and some good old-fashioned rapid chess enjoyed by players of all ages.

It is always a thrill to see chess being made accessible to the community, bringing players together in such a relaxed and welcoming environment. A big thank you to the iLembe District Municipality for investing in chess and creating opportunities like this for local players. 👏

A special mention as well to the many helping hands behind the scenes when extra support was needed — Mom Cornel stepped in to assist with scoring and coordinating rounds and all the parents and players who helped with setup. Nothing brings a community together quite like chess. 💪♟️

And of course… you know North Coast Chess Club came to play! 💪♟️

👉♟️ It was a fast and furious Round 3 of chess last night — players came to play!

We have officially reached the halfway point of Term 2 Swiss, and the competition is heating up! 🔥

A special well done to our newest member, Milan, on a fantastic win in his first game — a great result and a confident performance! 👏♟️

It has been good to see our beginners section growing, with a few new young players joining us. We love seeing new faces around the boards and players building confidence through regular games. ♟️😊

**Spotted this weekend!! 👀👀**

It was great to see a few of our dedicated NCCC players out this weekend at the **eThekwini Youth Championships** ♟️

In a province where tournaments can be few and far between, every opportunity to gain over-the-board experience matters. Regular tournament participation is important — not only for growth, ratings, and confidence, but also for remaining active and building a strong tournament record for future provincial opportunities.

A big well done to our players who showed commitment and represented NCCC proudly:

🏅 **Snehin** – 2nd place U16 (5/6)
🏅 **Sahilan** – 4th place U16 (4.5/6)
🏅 **Zipho** – 4th place U14 (4.5/6)
🏅 **Micah** – 1st place U10 (5/6)

Jared may have narrowly missed a Top 5 finish but still finished strongly on **4.5/6** — a great effort in a competitive field! 👏

We encourage players and parents to remember that tournament opportunities in Durban/KZN can be few and far between, making every event a valuable chance to gain experience, build confidence, stay active, and continue developing on the competitive chess pathway.

To the players who made the effort this weekend — well done. Keep playing, keep attending, and keep building your game! ♟️

♟️👀 **Spotted out at the board today…**

Our players were in full concentration mode at today’s **KwaDukuza CMC Schools Chess Tournament** at the Luthuli Museum 😅

Like most tournament days, there was plenty happening behind the scenes — and we were lucky enough to have some incredible people helping out to keep things moving. A shoutout to our legendary coach **Spha**, whose calm experience helped keep the day on track, and our local hero **Coach Prince**, who popped in to see the players and ended up stepping in to assist with arbiter duties and help things run smoothly 👏♟️

And not forgetting our amazing club mom, **Joanne Soojay**, who rolled up her sleeves to help coordinate the tournament and assist with scoring. It's true what they say: A mom’s work is never done 💙
