This is the silliest picture of Robert Braud we could find. We posted it hoping for laughs, because right now we all want to cry.

The Louisiana competition rifle family lost Robert yesterday; and there is nothing we can say to describe what an incredible loss this is. Robert was one of the pillars of competitive rifle shooting in Louisiana. The dominance of the Louisiana 4-H Shooting Sports is not possible without him and he is one of the main reasons that Louisiana has the best young silhouette shooters in the country. He is not replaceable.

To say that Robert was special is an understatement. He was a great friend; extremely capable, very intelligent, incredibly hard working. He was a person of rare perspective; one of those people that simply "gets it." He worked shoulder to shoulder with us but led from the front. He was the person that you want running the show when the show has to run. He did it all with rare kindness and humility.

Robert was a fierce advocate for his family. He raised absolutely wonderful kids; and he was instrumental in countless wonderful kids that he didn't raise. His legacy is in great hands and the future is bright - but right now we are heartbroken.

What is your definition of a “perfect shot?”

Check out Dustin’s response to a reader’s question and let us know what makes a shot perfect.

Several times throughout the championship match preparation series I just finished, I mentioned firing a “perfect shot.” That led to the following question by a reader:

Dustin is the 2026 Louisiana Grand Aggregate Smallbore & Air Rifle Silhouette Champion!

Dustin shot 174/200 over the weekend at the 2026 Louisiana Silhouette Championship to win the title in a shootoff with Junior Champion William Harris. Lady champion Elisabeth Steiger finished third at 168/200. Chris Cawthorne was the Senior champion for about the 25th year in a row at 155/200.

Saturday’s smallbore championships were a showcase of Louisiana’s incredible depth of junior shooting talent as both the Standard Rifle and Hunter Rifle state championships were won by first-time-champion junior shooters in extremely difficult windy conditions.

14 year-old Logan Benoit won Saturday morning’s Smallbore Standard Rifle state championship with a score of 51/60. Brothers William and Jacob Harris, along with Elisabeth Steiger, tied for second at 50/60. Elisabeth won the shootoff with William to win Master class and Jacob won AAA class.

Dustin won Sunday afternoon’s air rifle match with a 36/40. William, Elisabeth, and Dominic DeBenedetto tied for second at 35/40.

Dustin won the Open Air Rifle state championship with a score of 76/80. William finished second at 73/80. Elisabeth was third at 70/80.

Logan won his second state championship of the weekend in the Target Air Rifle match, shooting a 62/80 (34/40 & 28/40) and winning a shootoff against another Louisiana junior rising star, 15 year-old Nathan DeBenedetto (30/40 & 32/40). Reese Burnett finished third at 58/80 (31/40 & 26/40).

After the air rifle championships, Dustin and William were tied in the Grand Aggregate. Dustin won the 5-shot shootoff to take the championship.

Our team appreciates everyone who joined us this weekend. The team will next be in action at the Greg Sullivan Memorial at Benton Gun Club in Benton, Arkansas on May 15-17, 2026.
