Parkrun Trip to Glasgow – Queen’s Park Adventure 🇮🇪✈️
Last weekend, our Polish Runners Club Ireland crew headed off on another unforgettable parkrun tourism adventure – this time to Glasgow for Queen’s Park parkrun.
Our team set off bright and early, meeting at Dublin Airport before catching the 5:55am flight to Scotland. It was definitely a proper early start, but everything ran smoothly and we landed in Glasgow right on time. After linking up with the rest of the crew who joined us shortly after, the team was complete and ready for action.
From the airport, we jumped into an Uber and made our way straight to Queen’s Park – and what a course it turned out to be! This was no easy run. The route included nine climbs in total, with sections where we had to tackle three uphill stretches in a row before getting a downhill recovery. It was one of those parkruns where your legs are burning, your breathing is heavy… but you’re smiling the whole way through. Tough, challenging, but absolutely brilliant.
After crossing the finish line, we headed for coffee and cake at the nearby Baptist Church, which helps organise the event. The atmosphere was fantastic – warm, welcoming and full of community spirit. Exactly what parkrun is all about.
Once refuelled, the sightseeing (and eating!) part of our adventure began. First stop: an amazing Chinese breakfast spot, which tasted even better after such a hilly effort. Then we treated ourselves to some delicious Turkish sweets – well deserved, of course.
Later, we made our way into Glasgow city centre. No visit would be complete without trying the famous local speciality – the legendary deep-fried Mars bar. A Mars bar in batter, deep fried. It sounds crazy… but surprisingly, it works! Let’s just say there were no complaints.
We spent the afternoon wandering through the city, admiring the beautiful architecture, taking photos and soaking up the vibrant Glasgow atmosphere. After that, we popped into a pub for a well-deserved pint – just one… or maybe one-ish 😉
Before heading back to the airport, we made one final stop at a nearby park to see the famous Scottish Highland cows. These majestic animals were the perfect way to finish our day. We enjoyed a relaxed walk, plenty of photos and a few quiet moments before the journey home.
In the evening, we flew back to Dublin, landing around 9:10pm. From there, everyone continued their journeys back to different parts of Ireland. It was a long day, with some of us getting home close to midnight – but it was absolutely worth it.
Incredible company, plenty of laughs, a seriously tough parkrun, fantastic food and memories that will stay with us for a long time.
That’s exactly what parkrun tourism is all about – and we’re already looking forward to the next adventure. 💚

🌍 Club Trip Report: The Parkrun Quest for Letter "U" in Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Our first international trip of the year is officially in the books! This time, our club members set their sights on the letter "U" at University of Stirling parkrun in Scotland.

Change of Plans
The original strategy was to sail to Wales for the letter "Y," but a last-minute change in ferry schedules forced us to pivot. Not to be deterred, the team quickly rearranged the logistics, rescheduling Wales and locking in Scotland instead.

The Midnight Journey
The adventure began on Friday at 11:00 PM. Bernard Kowalski and Slawomir Lubanski picked up Rafal Wirkus, then they met with Wojtek Gasiorowski and Mariusz Czorniczek the rest of the crew, and by 00:15, they were en route to the Belfast ferry. Upon arrival, they were met with a 45-minute delay. A wave of concern hit the group—with a 180km (2-hour) drive from Cairnryan ahead of them, reaching the start line by 9:00 AM seemed impossible. However, luck was on their side: they soon discovered that Scottish parkruns start at 9:30 AM. Stress averted!

On the Course
The team arrived at 9:10 AM. Three of our members Wojtek Gasiorowski Slawomir Lubanski Mariusz Czorniczek stepped up as pacemakers, earning valuable volunteer credits. Among 286 runners, they received a warm welcome from the Run Director and took off. The course consisted of two laps around a scenic lake with a few challenging hills and—true to Scottish fashion—plenty of mud. Everyone finished safely, followed by a quick shower and a well-deserved coffee.

The Race Against Time
With about three hours to kill before the return ferry, the group headed to Glasgow for an Italian feast. After dinner, they realized they had only 2 hours until departure with a 1 hour 50 minute drive ahead. Despite a quick call to Stena Line to check rebooking options, the team decided to push through. Thanks to Mariusz Czorniczek excellent driving, they checked in at 15:10—just as the gates were technically closing.

The Numbers
The ferry departed at 16:00, landing in Belfast at 18:15. The team finally made it home around 21:00. To put it into perspective: they travelled for nearly 22 hours for less than 30 minutes of running! Some might call it crazy, but in this club, we call it passion.

What’s Next?
Our next adventure is already locked in! In 28th February, a group of six is heading to Queen's parkrun.

See you on the track! 🏃‍♂️💨

This year, our club members once again volunteered along the Dublin Marathon route! 🏃‍♂️🇮🇪
We secured the road from Fosters Avenue through Stillorgan Road all the way to Nutley Road, covering the stretch between miles 22 and 23.
A total of 19 people took part – not only club members but also members of the management team.
Everyone supported and cheered the runners with great energy and smiles.
One of our volunteers, however, drank a little too much coffee – the burst of energy got to him, and he gave runners an incredible boost at mile 22! ☕😂
Huge thanks to the entire crew for your dedication and the fantastic atmosphere – as always, you gave it your all!

Andrzej Zimowski (Endriu Pendriu) once again proved that the spirit of sporting competition is not limited by physical restrictions. During this year's Dublin Marathon, he participated as a passenger in a running wheelchair. Supported by a group of runners and spectators, endriu covered the entire marathon route, motivating the team pushing him to perform better and better.
Endriu reported that the atmosphere of the event was extremely uplifting – both runners and spectators enthusiastically cheered on the team, and he himself often cheerfully urged the “drivers” of the wheelchair along. “At one point I told the guys: come on, faster, we surely won’t be last!” endriu joked at the finish line, emphasizing how much fun he finds in participating in such events. It was not the first time endriu appeared on the Dublin Marathon course. With each consecutive start, he becomes an even more recognizable figure in the local running community, connecting athletes and supporters regardless of physical ability.
This year, he was pushed by Paweł Balcerowski, Jacek Pado, and Waldemar Ochab, who said that endriu motivated them throughout the route. “He didn't let us get bored, kept in constant contact, and when our pace dropped a bit, he encouraged us with his characteristic humor so that we would give our best.”The whole event showed that a marathon is not just a fight for time, but above all for shared experiences, breaking barriers, and building an amazing sporting bond among participants.
