Here’s the thing

Recovery doesn’t take one step, one cake or one scary meal.
Imagine 2 paths, one is gloriously lit up, clear and even has daisies down it. It’s comfortable underfoot and takes you straight to the safety of home.
Path 2 is hard. It’s overgrown and dark, you don’t know where it will lead or who will be there along the way.

Eating disorder recovery means you have to walk the second path- the scary path, the unknown, the uncomfortable and sometimes the lonely.

Until… you’ve walked the path so many times it starts to clear. And people join you, lights come on and you can see the safety of recovery.

But

One cake won’t do it
A healthy BMI won’t do it

Cumulative recovery: where to take consistent, repeated and uncomfortable steps at EVERY single meal is the ONLY way you will recover. I will recover.

Choosing that difficult path in the moment feels impossible and the comfort that an eating disorder brings can seem so tempting but it just prolongs the journey to freedom.

Small actions down the “wrong” path.
Choosing the discomfort
Choosing recovery.

Please share to promote understanding of what real recovery looks like. Someone you know will need this

Let’s talk about today’s lunch.

This is a big one, a double fear food meal.
I’ve planned it, chosen it and have committed to it being on my meal plan for the week.

But sometimes we make those promises and commitments when we feel good… and today is NOT one of those days
Today I feel worthless, exhausted and shameful.

But commitment over mood. Repetition pays.

1. Butter on JP
2. Cheese on JP

… do I eat the skin?… Annabelle (my 11 year old niece) told me this was the best bit and that she loves a butter sandwich in here… have I eaten too much already? Should I work it off?…

I ate it, enjoyed it and the world didn’t end.

New sound bite… “WWAD”… what would Annabelle do.

You can see the fear in my face, the discomfort and then questioning. But WWAD? And what sort or Mum do I want to be? Presence over perfection. Action over mood. Consistency pays.

Happy Monday 🩵🤰🏻🍕

I hope your weekend was full of joy and memories, that you committed to the best and fullest version of your life.

Here are 5 super helpful reminders which are undoubtedly useful for everyone in or not!

The final one is my focus for the week… they will love us no matter what! What a reminder.
Guess what…

It’s not about our bank account
The scale weight
Our clothes size
Whether we finish the pizza

The people who love us most, will love us REGARDLESS and if they don’t… well laters 👋🏻

You matter this week.

So, consistent, abundant and bold action
Repeatedly and reliably

So much content and inspiration taken here from an awesome online recovery community… podcasts etc just there for the nibbling!

We’ve got this right!?!

Recovery has to happen when everything is screaming no

Recovery doesn’t always look perfect
Today I had a recovery aligned breakfast goal
I knows what I was “supposed” to order, where to go and ideally at what time.

But life isn’t like that is it?

Old me, deep in my ED would absolutely panic. What do I eat instead? How many calories would that be? Is the world going to end?…

Today I proved that…

1. No the world doesn’t end
2. I can eat spontaneously and with joy
3. Food is loosing its grip.

All of this is because of the repeated, abundant and bold action I take everyday. Recovery can look like journaling, reflection and meditating but without the action it’s redundant.

Action over mood, over circumstance and and over rules

Friday catch up from me and Bella 🩵🤰🏻🩵

I don’t think this reflection does justice to how INCREDIBLE is.
His compassion, support and kindness this week has been amazing. I’m so blessed to be in love with my best friend and life is better just because he’s in it.

Also huge shout out to my recovery coach, who is possibly the most patient soul out there .

So much joy to look forward to including event tomorrow and birthday shenanigans with my favourite humans.

Bold abundance, repeatedly and consistently

Happy weekend gorgeous people

Recovery from anorexia… is simple
Eat
And do so with abundance and big bold steps

Last night, gifted me a gorgeous birthday cake.
‼️ RED ALARM ‼️
Having eaten my first slice, I took the big bold step of asking for another because it was delicious, I wanted it and it’s my birthday.

Those behaviours then take repetition over and over again.

Bold abundance
Brave, bold abundance
Brave, bold, repeated abundance

And THAT is why recovery is SO hard

Happy Monday 🩷🩵🩷🩵

For a LONG time there was no way I could enjoy a PURE carbohydrate meal.
I needed to ensure I hit a protein goal, that vegetables and fibre were the real star to add bulk and the perception of a full plate.

We know all the tricks

Pouring a regular bowl of cereal was one of my first goals because I absolutely bloody LOVE carbohydrates and cereal is one of my faves… boringly, bran flakes and all bran is my default with the occasional chuck in of shreddies.
Goal 2… green top milk (bye bye almond milk)
Goal 3… add chia seeds for more fats
Goal 4… increase portion

Are carbs bad for you? No. Don’t be a dick

Monday mantra: CARBS ARE MY FRIEND 👯‍♂️👯
Repeat… CARBS ARE MY FRIEND 👯🏻

Tiering goals is also super helpful. Especially if going “all in” seems to much. Find the first step on the ladder and then slowly creep up. Once the action feels comfortable, it’s time to level up.
That basic principle goes for ANYTHING

Play the game, start small, remain consistent
Level up, remain consistent
Feel the freedom/ power

Photo 1. What do I see?
No thigh gap
Why are my legs that wobbly?
My belly just looks fat not pregnant
If I look like this… people will doubt that I need to support for my eating disorder

Photo 2…
A little bend and what d’ya know!… that’s better? That ticks a societal norm or standard I’m happy to oblige to? Much more permissible

But photo 3 is authentic
My legs carry me through life, they wrap round Brad (TMI), they allow me to swim and stand tall. They’re also supporting a whole second person. They’re relaxed and on holiday.

So which photo should I post? Which one shows real authentic beauty.
