The 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships have successfully come to a close. Team Australia performed strongly throughout the two days of competition, and showed off all the hard work and preparation they had done on the way to the 1AOKC.

On Day 2 of these Championships:

▶️ The Women’s Team showed great skill and teamwork to reach a Third Place finish in the Women’s Team event 🥉
▶️ The Men’s Team put up an excellent performance against a very difficult opponent in Chinese Taipei.

Congratulations to all the players for the weekend of excellent Kendo, amazing teamwork and wonderful camaraderie. Ginormous thanks to all the Coaches, Team Managers and supporters for helping the team become Team Australia and performing so excellently at this momentous occasion.

We look forward to more great performances from the Australian National Kendo Team on the way to the World Kendo Championships in Tokyo next year!

📣 1AOKC Day 2 - Men’s Team 📣

The Australian Men’s Team fought an intensive battle against the Chinese Taipei team for a spot in the Quarterfinals. It came down to a countback of points to decide the winner; unfortunately that wasn’t Australia today.

The Aussies started amazingly, with a great combination of skills and grit shown by the front end of the team. However, the Chinese Taipei team was able to turn the momentum around to their favour in the back straight.

Congratulations to the team for an awesome effort!

This marks the end of the Aussie campaign at the 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships. Now, it’s time to sit back and enjoy the rest of the show.

📣 1AOKC Day 2 - Women’s Team 📣

In a display of amazing kendo, the Aussie women sailed through their initial rounds with convincing wins against Myanmar and China.

In the Semifinals, they played very valiantly against a very strong Korean team. Kelly Kishikawa displayed great Taisho spirit in ensuring Korea didn’t completely roll over the Aussies and scored an amazing kote.

Congratulations to the Australian Women’s Team to come third in the Women’s Team event at the inaugural Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships! 🎉

Next, the Aussie men will be playing on Shiaijo 2, against the winner of Chinese Taipei vs Vietnam which is currently underway.

Day 2 of the 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships will be underway soon!

Team Australia is getting ready for the Team events. The Women’s Team will start in the morning with a match against Myanmar on Shiaijo 3, and the Men’s Team’s first match will be in the afternoon, against the winner of Chinese Taipei and Vietnam.

Wherever you are, send your cheers to the Aussies in person and over the interwebs!

A great day for Team Australia on the first day of the 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships. All the players did amazingly, regardless of their results.

The results from the Individuals events are:

🥈Samantha Zhong - Second Place in Women’s Individuals (3 Dan and below)
🥈Joshua Wildey - Secons Place in Men’s Individuals (3 Dan and below)
🏅Suhee Cho - Fighting Spirit Award in Women’s Individuals (3 Dan and below)
🏅Kelly Kishikawa - Fighting Spirit Award in Women’s Individuals (No Dan Limitation)

Congratulations to all the players for your amazing efforts throughout the day! And big thanks to everyone who did wonderfully to support all the players 🙏

📣 1AOKC Day 1 - Men’s Individuals (3 Dan and Below) 📣

In a intense battle across the ditch, our Josh Wildey was up against Max Lee of New Zealand at the Final of the Women’s Individuals (3 Dan and below) division at the 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships. The Kiwi was the better player today. Congratulations to Josh for taking home a Silver Medal at the inaugural Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships.

📣 1AOKC Day 1 - Women’s Individuals (3 Dan and Below) 📣

A strong performance for our Sam Zhong at the Final of the Women’s Individuals (3 Dan and below) division at the 1st Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships. Today her opponent, W. Tsao of Chinese Taipei, was the better of the two players, so Sam will go home with a Silver Medal at the inaugural Asia-Oceania Kendo Championships.

📣 1AOKC Day 1 - Men’s Individuals (No Dan Limitation) 📣

Despite strong performances in their respective matches, both Alan Kishikawa and Yoonsu Kim came up against very tough opponents, and neither was able to win their first round matches. Notably, Yoonsu was in a 10min+ struggle against the Singaporean No 1.

Our Sam and Josh will be in the Final matches of their 3 Dan and below divisions, which will be starting at 5pm Japan time (6pm AEST).
