Costello Field Renovation updates:
A LOT of old infield mix was removed off of the field and I mean a LOT.
72 tons of infield mix (same stuff used for the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs) has been brought in, mixed in at various depths and graded to close to final grade. This will help tremendously with shedding water to the appropriate warning tracks to get the water out of the playing field.
Brand new 4 sided pitchers rubber was set at grade and properly aligned with home plate and trued to the playing field.
Brand new base pegs have been set to appropriate distances and squared true to the playing field, including the newly added double first base to be in compliance with the upcoming NFHS/IHSAA addition of the double first base.
Brand new infield bases have been purchased.
Infield irrigation sprinklers have been relocated to the new sod line to provide necessary watering for the new sod to be installed as well as the sprinkler heads for the infield/outfield transition zones.
Infield irrigation hose quick disconnect has been rediscovered, used, brought up to the new grade and reset to be used for many years to come.
The batter/catcher/umpire areas have been rebuilt with heavy clay reinforcement and graded appropriately.
The cutouts have been started for the new inlaid Field Armor panels for the batters boxes, catchers box and pitching lane…hopefully to be installed to grade and finalized tomorrow.
Warning track still needs to be installed, new sod installed and trimmed to field specs and field conditioner installed to the playing surface upon final grade.
All in all, these two have really knocked it out of the park!
Hopefully this project will reach its conclusion by the end of next week. Cannot wait to see the final product! The conclusion update will be coming next week.
