I arrived at the lake Friday after work and had a good walk around for a hour or so I found a few fish swimming in and out of a bay so decided to set up there for my session.

The first 24 hours was quiet and on the Sunday morning I was into my first fish these both came with in a hour of each other and both fell to the same baiting and rig tactics.

Rig wise I was using the D rig and the components of the rig are a size 6 curve shank using the Korda dark matter coated braided hook link 25lb breaking strain with a knotless knot with a Ridgemonkey D rig kicker slid over the hook with a micro ring swivel for bait attachment using bait floss, then using trimmed down white and pink krill waters fished in a PVA bag with 6 & 2mm alla aqua pellets, crushed krill boillies and the krill powder and a good helping of the krill cloudy liquid.

After a long, wet and muddy 2 days one the syndicate this one finally graced the net after tackling through the bream all night.

It fell to the chod rig fishing an almond goo soaked 16mm pop up with a piece of cork drilled into it as the pop ups have been soaking for some months.

I was also fishing particle baits with a good helping of crushed and crumbed cell boillies and a lot of manilla liquid attraction.

I arrived to the lake Saturday morning just before first light, I was standing in one of the swims i was in favour of fishing and no longer than 10 mins of me standing their I was lucky enough to see a carp show its self ( head and shoulders out of the water ) and my mind was made up form their on out.

This lovely carp fell to the ol faithful chod rig with a 16mm pop up soaked in the pineapple goo I was fishing crushed cell boillies crumbed Manilla boillies and some 10 and 4mm alla aqua pellets and a tin of corn mixed in with lots of the Manilla liquid.

People who don’t fish often struggle to understand the obsession that anglers, especially carp fishermen, have with the sport. To them, it might just seem like sitting by a lake for hours, waiting for something to happen. But those who fish know it’s so much more than that. It’s the anticipation, the connection with nature, and the sheer excitement of that first run when a carp takes the bait. The long hours spent watching the water, reading its movements, and fine-tuning rigs are all part of the challenge. Non-anglers don’t get the dedication behind finding the perfect spot, pre-baiting an area, or the rush of adrenaline when a hard-fighting carp finally bends the rod double.

For many, the love of fishing started young, not with carp, but with simpler catches—float fishing for roach and rudd, feeling the solid thump of a tench in the margins, or the surprise of a slab-sided bream breaking the surface. Those early days, spent learning the basics with a simple rod and a tin of maggots, laid the foundation for a lifelong passion. It’s in those moments, watching the float dip or the tip of a feeder rod twitch, that anglers develop an understanding of watercraft and patience. That’s something you can’t explain to someone who’s never fished—it’s not just about catching fish; it’s about the entire experience, the pursuit, and the memories made along the way.

Managed a lovely 22lb mirror out this weekend on the syndicate, this one was caught off a over hanging snag

The method used was a D Rig tied with 25lb Korda dark matter coated braid, using a Korda D Rig kicker and a micro ring swivel to tie the hook bait on to the rig and a size 6 micro barbed curve shank,

The hook bait colour was a white trimmed down stick krill Wafter fished in a pva bag with krill stick mix and alla aqua 2 and 6mm pellets

Managed this absolute beauty of a mirror off a gravel spot in the middle of my swim surrounded by w**d when I turned up to the lake i had seen a few carp showing over that spot.

I decide to go with a pva bag approach using a short D Rig with a pink trimmed down krill wafter
with some 6mm krill pellets and 16mm boilles soaked in the krill cloudy liquid and a bit of the krill powder all from sticky baits.

The rig itself self I tied using 25lb Korda Dark Matter coated braid tied to a size 6 curve shank from j precision hooks with a knotless knot and a Korda D Rig kicker then a micro ring swivel to attach the bait to using floss and a anti tangle sleeve on the leader attachment end.

X line is an incredible choice of main line it’s transparent in the water and I’ve used it for many years now.

Widely considered to be the best fluorocarbon mainline for short-to-mid range casting, the X Line Fluoro offers the one of the greatest sensitivities of any lines currently available on the market. This means that you’ll be able to get a clear picture of what’s going on under the water and this line offers excellent bite indication. If you’re after a responsive setup this is the ideal line choice for you. Where the X Line Fluorocarbon Mainline really comes into its own is when you’re slack line fishing. It offers weight to diameter ration that really needs to be experienced in order to be believed and this line really does sink like a brick. This means that once you cast out you can be confident that this line isn’t gong to waste any time dropping through the water and hugging to the contours of your venue.
