I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s early April and my NP said that I could minimize my symptoms if I changed some things in my diet. So I started to “feel,” if that makes sense what foods agreed with me and which don’t. I was relying on plain Greek yogurt every day to give me 20grams of protein; I try to eat 160-170 grams of protein daily, which is a struggle in itself.

I started praying and changing my diet and found myself constantly frustrated because of how I felt. All of the sudden, gluten, tomatoes and dairy and cauliflower and Brussel sprouts made me feel bloaty and gross.

My immune system is attacking my thyroid; and your thyroid is the basis of how your body functions properly. It manages hormones among many other things. So when your body fights itself at every turn, dietary changes can really help. I love Rx blueberry bars but they’re only 10grams of protein and I didn’t want to eat two a day. I needed something with fiber that was going to replace my Greek yogurt after my workout.

So I looked in my pantry at what I had and started praying that I’d find a recipe for a protein bar that I could eat that was clean, full of fiber and protein and didn’t make me bloat or have too much fake sugar, which is the problem with most protein bars in the grocery. And God provided, as He always does.

My NP said that Hashi’s doesn’t go away, but I believe in a God that performs miracles and answers prayer every day. That is my prayer for my body. But even when He does heal me, I’ll continue to eat these delicious and healthy bars that make me feel so good and that are good for my family too. If we are what we eat, I wanna eat these all day. 😆

I’ve been working on making a gluten free, dairy free, high-protein, no junk, high fiber snack and it’s taken me a bit but yesterday’s batch is finally perfect!!!

Be boring; wake up early and talk to Jesus, read your Bible, eat your MACROS, put your phone down and rest your mind, move, lift, sweat.
THESE are the formula to reaching every goal you have. Diet culture, Amazon prime, they’ve made us hungry for results we’re not willing to work for and they’re fleeting. Be weird, let God lead your weight loss journey in a way that honors Him. It’s so much more than the scale and abs, it’s peace, the eternal kind.

1 Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, a but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Whether it’s healthy habits, what you watch or read, whether you surround them with Godly influence. It’s all on you mama. You set the standard, you set the boundaries, you help lead them to better choices.

The way they act, eat, speak. Kids are a sponge, they soak up what they see. Our habits, words and lifestyles reflect in our children and I’ll be doggone if our child will grow up “of the world.”

I remember my grama Pool saying “cursing is a sign of ignorance” and when I gave my life back to Christ how convicted I felt to clean up my mouth; in what came out but also what went in. And now I feel it’s most important to emulate in my life what I want our daughter’s life to reflect.

Father, fill her life with Godly influences, with people who push her closer to you. Remove inappropriate talk from her life and help us to show her what that looks like. Help us to fuel her with Your word, with movement and healthy food. Remove the pressure to conform to the world and help us raise a child that aches to live for you alone. We love You, Amen.

I want to be her friend, but I’m her mom first. It amazes me how smart she is, how she does what we do. I pray she is as encouraged by my actions as I am by hers.

Everyone wants a quick fix, the shot, the tea, the starvation method…no one wants to listen to the Holy Spirit; summer’s coming, ain’t nobody got time for that…or do we?

I’ve worked with women in health & fitness for over 9 years, I’ve struggled in my personal journey for 15+ and the ONE thing I keep coming back to is conviction > complacency.

The quick fix is never sustainable, it doesn’t fix the junk in your head. It’s temporary. I’ve tried most of them, I know.

If we truly, I mean TRULY want to release the weight forever you have to do the hard work that most never will. You have to seek the Spirit and HEAL in the inside before you can EVER reap the reward on the outside. But who wants to do that?

Scripture is filled with help here, yet do we actually seek it then obey? It’s really hard some days to eat 2,308 calories but it’s where God has led me, it’s hard to wake up at 4:15 so I have time before the babe wakes up, it’s hard to say ‘no’ to nice cream when I want it. God never promises easy, He promises a way out so we can endure it. He promises to heal us when we let Him, but we don’t let Him, do we?

Quick fixes may work for awhile, but when you get in to the actual hard work of healing unhealthy mindsets, work through triggers and learn about why the 2,000 calorie diet is on every nutrition label; you learn what your body actually NEEDS to function, why starvation is taking you backwards, why you have no energy or focus or strength.

When you seek the Spirit and walk in obedience, it feels better, you heal, your body becomes God’s temple to dwell in, in peace instead of starvation and chaos and what a beautiful place to be.

So to all of you out there doing the actual hard work, keep going; one healthy meal, one workout, one prayer at a time. God sees your willingness to trust Him and listen. His reward is waiting, and not the scale kind but the eternal kind, the kind that pushes us to understand that skinny does NOT = healthy. That true health comes from Him; knowing who you are in Him and that’s a victory the scale will never match.

Keep plugging away! I see you and I’m here for you!

10,000 steps is NOT the magic number. Walking IS the best thing you can do for your body, but 6-8,000 steps is a great goal to move towards. If you’re not close to that, that’s ok too.

Start where you are and add as you can. Give yourself a time frame, set a goal and get moving.

The weather in Indiana has SUCKED this Spring and the dog has gained 6 pounds since Atalie started eating in a high chair, not to mention my hashimotos weight gain. It happens.

Just move. Steady state, zone 2 cardio, low impact is so much better for us ladies over 40. Fresh air is good for the soul. Take a walk without music or a podcast and pray.

Just move and do your best. Choose gratitude. These are the recipe for a happy, healthy life.
