Podium Finish for MRL Athletics Coached Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) athlete Liesel‑Mari Fritz.

Congratulations to Liesel‑Mari Fritz on securing 2nd place in the Veteran’s category at the 2026 Loskop Wild Challenge 21.1km.

The Loskop Wild Challenge is no ordinary half marathon, it’s a tough mixed‑terrain course with nearly 500m of elevation gain, featuring the infamous Thaba Diafela jeep‑track climb, a brutal 1.8km stretch at an 11% gradient that tests even the strongest athletes.

Liesel‑Mari delivered a composed, resilient, and tactical performance on one of the province’s most demanding routes. A well‑earned podium for an athlete who continues to rise to every challenge.

Athletics South Africa 2026 Senior Track & Field Championships – University of Stellenbosch

MRL Athletics and Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) coach Michael Rynier Lenhoff travelled with the Athletics Gauteng North Senior Track & Field Team to the Athletics South Africa Senior Championships, serving as the 800m, 1500m, 3000m Steeplechase, 5000m and 10,000m coach, as well as the Athletics Gauteng North Team Medical Manager. He formed part of a world‑class 16‑person management and coaching team dedicated to supporting Athletics Gauteng North athletes across all disciplines.

Athletics Gauteng North delivered a dominant performance throughout the Championships, producing world‑class results across the programme. A total of 179 AGN athletes qualified to compete, a remarkable achievement that reflects the depth, strength, and excellence of the province. The Athletics Gauteng North Senior Track & Field team was strong enough to compete as a stand‑alone nation at a World Championships level.

This experience will undoubtedly benefit all MRL Athletics coached athletes going forward, strengthening the technical, tactical, and high‑performance systems that support their development.

TOP FINISH FOR MRL Athletics COACHED Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) ULTRA MARATHON RUNNER

Congratulations to Bongani Jele on an outstanding 4th place overall at the ZDM 56km Ultra Marathon in Ulundi, KwaZulu‑Natal.

Bongani delivered a world‑class performance on a grueling course with over 1 400m of elevation gain, crossing the line in a brilliant time of 03h38.

A superb result and another strong step toward Comrades 2026.

Athletics Gauteng North 1 Mile Championships

Congratulations to MRL Athletics coached Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) athlete James Chapman Jr. on a strong top‑10 finish in the Junior category at the Athletics Gauteng North 1 Mile Championships, incorporated into the Green Mile Athletics Club 16/8/4 and 1 Miler event.

James delivered a composed and competitive performance, finishing within the minimum qualifying standard for the Athletics South Africa 1 Mile Championships later this year. A well‑earned achievement and another step forward in his development.

It has been an exceptionally busy and successful three weekends for the MRL Athletics–coached Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) athletes.

Ingrid Lambrechts Koster opened the campaign at the Athletics Gauteng North Masters Track & Field Championships in Pretoria, claiming 1st place in the W50–54 5000m. From the track it was straight to the airport, where she joined the Nedbank Running Club - National Ladies Team en route to Cape Town for the Spar Ladies Grand Prix 10km in Green Point the very next day, finishing an impressive 6th overall.

The momentum continued last week at the Athletics Gauteng North Half-Marathon Championships, hosted within the Irene Festival of Running.

• Ingrid Lambrechts Koster secured 2nd place in the W50–54 category, comfortably achieving the qualifying standard for the Athletics South Africa Half-Marathon Championships.

• James Chapman jnr delivered the race of his life, finishing 6th in the Junior Men in a superb personal best time of 01:24, also qualifying for the Athletics South Africa Half-Marathon Championships.

On the ultra-distance front, MRL Athletics–coached Comrades runner David Molele completed the Irene Festival of Running 48km Ultra, securing his Comrades Marathon qualifier and running a personal best over the marathon distance en route.

Across the border in Eswatini, Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) Comrades Elite athlete Bongani Jele claimed 3rd place at the Lumobo Half-Marathon, clocking his second-fastest half-marathon time of 01:12.

A massive weekend for MRL Athletics coached Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North (GN) Nedbank Running Club - National athlete, Ingrid Lambrechts Koster

On Saturday morning, Ingrid Lambrechts Koster opened her campaign in style, winning the Athletics Gauteng North Masters Track & Field Championships W50 5000m with a commanding run.

From there it was a quick turnaround to the airport as she joined the Nedbank Running Club - National team for the My SPAR Ladies Grand Prix 10km in Cape Town, South Africa — where she delivered yet again, running a personal best over 10km and finishing 6th in the W50 category.
Two races. Two provinces. Two outstanding performances.
Ingrid continues to set the standard for excellence and resilience.
