The Proposed BCT Trail Centre 💚

The proposed BCT Trail Centre would be funded through dedicated grants and donor-supported fundraising, set aside specifically for this project. These funds will not impact trail construction or ongoing trail maintenance.

The need for a permanent Trail Centre was first identified in 2017 when upgrades to the West Bragg Creek trailhead, parking area, washrooms and maintenance compound highlighted the long-term need for a purpose-built facility to support our growing trail network and community.

West Bragg Creek Trail Centre???

A two story up to 3,750 ft2 building located near the WBC parking lot.

The current plan is for the Trails Centre to contain:
• a common gathering / warm-up / eating area for up to 150 people
• a meeting room for groups to convene for educational or organizational purposes
• a small kitchen, office for trail hosts & BCT staff, small information and BCT sales
booth and indoor equipment storage room
• indoor washrooms with 4-6 flush toilets

Redwood Meadows Firefighters' Association has been there for us when we need help on the trails. A recent fire at the hall cost them their UTV and other equipment that not only protects the homes in Bragg, but also rescues trail users in Kananaskis.

Here’s a chance to pay that back!

Our community needs us more than ever.

This past week, RMES experienced a devastating loss when a fire destroyed our back hall. While we remain fully operational and ready to respond, the back hall was a place that housed trucks and extensive equipment that served and protected our community. Thankfully no lives were lost, but the damage is significant and the road to rebuilding will take some time.

We're working with our insurance company to understand what will be recovered, what is limited coverage and what isn't covered. Some of our equipment, while useful, was older and the costs won't be fully covered when replacing them.

We've launched a fundraising website to help rebuild what was lost: RebuildRMES.org.

Every donation, big or small, brings RMES closer to restoring the space.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and with that comes the complicated joy of finding your own Christmas Tree.

Please check out Alberta Wildfire's great video breaking down the process of finding where you can legally cut down trees, obtaining a tree cutting permit and what areas you cannot cut in.

Plans are being hatched to decommission a bunch of the classic unpublished MTB trails in the Canmore Region. Even though these trails are located between massive quarries, a gravel pit, land fill, gun range, developments and cement factories, they've been deemed to be in ecologically critical areas and will likely be shut down.

The irony of the province decommissioning these singletrack MTB trails is not lost on us. They claim it's critical "to protect wildlife habitat" in an area where that same species can be hunted. The province also just forced approvals for a new 15,000 person development adjacent/within this critical wildlife corridor despite the objections of the Town of Canmore and countless environmental groups.

After adding the Kananaskis Fee, Public Land Camping Fee and increasing Camping Fees YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) has their eyes on a new tax…

In the near future if you want to paddle anywhere in Alberta, you will likely have to register your play toys and pay a tax.

TRAIL CAUTION – PLEASE AVOID USE‼️

WBC has been hit hard by rain - 162mm total over the past 7 days:

🌧️ 66mm on Monday

🌧️ 25mm on Thursday

🌧️ 23mm on Friday

🌧️ 30mm Saturday night

With more heavy rain in the forecast, trails are fully saturated and many sections have running water. Continued use at this time, especially by mountain bikers and equestrians, is causing damage that will take a lot of work to repair.

We’re asking all trail users to please avoid using the trails until they’ve had a chance to drain.

After rainfall, check the West Bragg Creek weather station and allow one hour of drying time per millimetre of rain.
