Portage Race 2026 - course update and event details

Sunday 17th May 2026, Picton Foreshore
Race rego on the day from 7.30am
Race briefing 8.20am
Competitors start heading out to Mabel Island from 8.50am
First wave start 9.15am

Course options will be the same as last year. All options start and finish at Mabel Island, approx 2.5km from Picton Foreshore.

Short course 7km (with neutral 7km return, + paddle to and from start/finish line) - Kayak , Waka Ama, Ocean Rowing

Long course with no portages 25km - Kayak and Waka Ama

Long course with portages 25km on the water, 4km total portages - Kayak and W1 / W2 Waka Ama

Twin Rivers results

Important update for Twin Rivers and your boat choice / rudder setup!

Expect some floating hazards waiting to attach to your rudder as you head upstream. Could be a fair bit of w**d making it's way downstream on the Ōpaoa. Nothing like an extra challenge especially in those last few kms 😀

Twin Rivers is almost upon us again!

Saturday 10th January

Registration opens 9am at Blenheim Rowing Club.
Race Briefing 10am.
First Start 10.30, followed by 10.45 & 11am.
Entries $25 per person - cash on the day.

Couple of updates before you all head into the long weekend!

Head over to Nelson this weekend for the canoe marathon champs - everyone is welcome whether you're a multisporter training for C2C or looking for a fun event to test your fitness heading into summer. Marathon champs is on in Nelson this weekend! Open to all paddlers, multisport, surfski, K1, waka, SUP. Not too late to enter! Great opportunity to race close to home without the logistics!

📢Just three weeks to go until the 2025 NZ and Oceania Canoe Marathon Championships in Motueka!
We have confirmed squads from Australia coming over and with National and Oceania titles up for grabs as well as a beautiful long weekend destination, it's set to be a great weekend of racing! Open to K1, Skis, Multisport, Waka and SUPs as well as double craft racing on Sunday, there is something for all paddlers.

Come join us in New Zealand's sunniest location this Labour weekend.
There is a trailer coming down from the North Island so reach out to CRNZ if you want to get your boat on there.

Hi everyone,

The MTMC's AGM will be held on Tuesday 14 October, at 7pm at the Grovetown Hotel.

Under new legislation for incorporated societies, we need to adopt a new constitution. This will be discussed, amended as appropriate and ultimately adopted at the AGM.

Looking forward to seeing many of you on the 14th!
