Breaking news from Japan’s V.League:

Following today’s league match against the Tokyo Great Bears, Russian Legendary player, Dmitriy Muserskiy has announced that he will retire from professional volleyball at the end of the current season.

Dmitriy Muserskiy is one of the most decorated volleyball players of his generation, highlighted by a historic Olympic gold medal with Russia at London 2012.

With Russia, he won major titles including the 2011 FIVB World Cup, the 2013 European Championship, and the 2018 FIVB Nations League. With Suntory Sunbirds in Japan, he helped the team win Asian Club Championships (2022 and 2023) and a Club World Championship bronze medal title in 2023 in Bangalore, further adding to his legacy.

As a result, the Suntory Sunbirds have begun their search for a successor, with reports indicating that their primary target is Wassim Ben Tara, who is expected to leave Perugia once the current competitions conclude.

Scandicci Capture Historic First World Club Title in São Paulo

Savino Del Bene Scandicci made history by winning their first-ever FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, defeating defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano 3–1 (30–28, 25–19, 21–25, 25–23) in the 2025 final held in São Paulo. The Italian club, founded in 2012, completed a near-flawless campaign, dropping only one set throughout the tournament while overcoming three continental champions.

This victory marks the biggest achievement in Scandicci’s history, following past European triumphs in the Challenge Cup (2022) and CEV Cup (2023). Star opposite Ekaterina Antropova led the effort with 25 points in the final, earning both the tournament MVP and Best Opposite honors. Teammates Avery Skinner and Maja Ognjenović were also named to the Dream Team.

For Conegliano, the loss halted their bid for a record-tying fourth world title. Isabelle Haak and Gabriela “Gabi” Guimarães led the runners-up with 20 and 19 points respectively. Brazil’s Osasco and Dentil Praia Clube finished third and fourth, with Camila Brait and Adenízia Ferreira also earning Dream Team selections.

Russian youth team returns to world stage!!

Starting January 2026, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will allow Russian and Belarusian youth athletes to compete again in international tournaments. This policy applies to both individual and team sports, including FIVB age-group volleyball competitions and the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal

The decision follows the IOC Executive Board’s recommendation, endorsed by the Olympic Summit, that youth athletes from these countries should no longer face restrictions based solely on nationality. They will be allowed to compete under their national flags and anthems, following standard FIVB competition protocols.

While youth athletes regain eligibility, the ban on senior national teams from Russia and Belarus will remain in effect through 2026. Major youth tournaments that year include the Men’s Junior World Championship in Doha and the Women’s event in Santiago, Chile.

Chinese volleyball icon Jenny Lang Ping has been awarded the prestigious IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony in Lausanne. A trailblazer in the sport, Lang’s Olympic journey spans over 40 years, from leading China to gold as a player in 1984 to making history as the first person to win Olympic gold as both a player and coach in 2016.

Lang expressed gratitude to the teams, players, and mentors who shaped her remarkable career across China, Italy, and the USA. Congratulations to a true legend of volleyball!
