Exercise Treatment as part of Lung Cancer Treatment

Continuing my work into exercise and lung cancer, I wanted to summarise the current data available to provide a guide as to how best to move during different stages of their lung cancer journey.

Here you’ll find evidence-based recommendations for:
- pre treatment
- immediately post treatment (surgery)
- post treatment (long term)
- advanced stage

As always, any questions do ask and I hope you find this useful.

If so, please share as I want to reach and help more people.

Effects of Exercise in Patients with Lung Cancer

My review of a recent (2021) meta analysis exploring all work investigating this area to date.

Lung cancer is the 3rd most prevalent cancer in men and women. The symptoms and side effects from treatment can be harsh, however, could exercise help to alleviate and attenuate their severity? Read on.

As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Mind-Body exercise- does it work?

I review a recent (2021) analysis investigating the effects of mind- body exercise on cancer related fatigue with breast cancer patients.

Have you tried mind-body exercise? I’d love to hear your personal experiences.

For more info, here is the study reference:

An interesting new study looking into both objective and subjective barriers and facilitators to exercise in prostate cancer patients.

Based on the data, it got me thinking. The two biggest facilitators are group sessions and a male-centred approach to exercise, however, the number of places/people that provide these services are not proportional to the number of men with prostate cancer (at least in the UK).

Regarding the barriers, both are not surprising. To overcome them, the benefits of exercise need to be made clear and impressed upon the patients. If so, a patient would not fear exacerbation of symptoms and be likely to make the time to exercise.

This kind of data is helpful to practitioners like me. I would love to know what you think, especially if you have prostate cancer.

Hypothetically- would a male-only group-based exercise class that was prioritised and aligned with your treatment plan be something that you’d be interested in?
