Below is a detailed putting routine but if you want the real short cut check out our putting system ➡️ https://www.tourpathgolf.com/
It is important to stick to this routine no matter how short or long the putt is. Although you may feel like it takes more or too much time, it will take less time and be way less frustrating if you stick to your routine. Maintain this routine in the same order every time for consistent results.
Putting Routine:
1. Line First: Always trust the line from behind the ball, not beside it. Focus on the direct path to the hole.
2. Assessing the Break: If you rolled a ball straight at the hole, would it go in? If a straight roll wouldn't make it, determine where it would end up and adjust accordingly. Can't see the break from behind? Check from the opposite side. You will see something from one side for certain.
3. Evaluate the Lie: Identify if the putt is uphill, downhill, or level.
4. Prioritize Speed Last: The common mistake among poor putters is focusing on the line last. Remember, the speed affects the line.
5. Speed and Feel: Stand a comfortable distance from the ball, practicing swings while looking at a target at hole height. You are getting a “feel” of the speed required to get the ball to crawl in the front of the hole. Perfect speed is the ball crawling into the hole, not crashing into the back of the hole.
6. Shoulder Movement: Ideally, your shoulders should TURN, not rock up and down.
7. Hand Positioning: Align the back of your left hand or the palm of your right hand (depending on which is dominant) with your target, matching your clubface.
8. Grip Pressure: Grip pressure should be a 1 out of 10. It should start at 1 and stay at 1. Now with this proper grip pressure, you should feel like your stroke has to be a little longer and slower to get the ball the same distance as before with tight grip pressure. Added bonus: the putter will almost automatically release back and through-plus, you actually have “feel” now for speed.
9. Focus on the Ball: When striking the putt, focus in with laser-like eyes on a specific part of the ball and repeat that speed. You should still be looking at that spot until just after impact. There should be no surprises when you look up.
