HSA - Hawaii Surfing Association The structure of the HSA was to promote the sport and competitions at different locales.

Formed in the early 60's as the "Hawaii Surfing Association" the original 'grouping' of amateur and professional surfers from throughout our island state was organized under this HSA banner for competition and recognition by the other worldwide associations. The creation of community and regional surfing
teams in that era helped to elevate the HSA's recognized stature on an international level tha

t found only Australia as a true rival in organized surfing. Today surfing as a sport, in the eyes of the HSA, represents a commitment on the part of its directors and officials to help members focus on their athletic skills, physical training and short and long term surfing goals toward a professional career. Of equal importance is the commitment on behalf of the HSA's leadership
to help its members maintain good guidance, educational direction and
responsibility to their families and others within their community.

Watermen, united by their profound connection with the canoe, carry forth the legacy of tradition and culture in Waikīkī. The Waʻa, not just a vessel, symbolize their heritage and bridge them to the sea’s depths. Waikīkī Beach Services honors watermen of past and present like Chuck, John Makua, and Russell who are living embodiments of a deep-rooted way of life, preserving the past while guiding the future. 🌊

1963 Makaha international surfing championships
top row Buffalo Keaulana and Rabbit Kekai,
Below Barry Kanaiapuni and Fred Hemmings.
Interestingly, both Buffalo and Rabbit are pure Hawaiian something you don’t see too much of any more and Barry was mostly Hawaiian. They are handsome and most talented athletes.

A place where my sister and I grew up, running around the park, bbqing with the uncles, and surfing the inside courts bowl. We hope to see you all on March 4th for his celebration of life at the keyhole.

If you aren’t familiar where the keyhole is, its the double grass island on the ewa side of Mccoy Pavilion

* If you plan on bringing your own tents, there is no ground staking due to water sprinkler lines. So gotta tie it down to your coolers 🙏🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
