Take a bow. On September 30, my beloved Fivelements Habitat will close its doors. I’ve left places, I’ve been fired once and it’s difficult when the goodbye isn’t on our terms.

It’s an ambitious space. Nothing else is like it in HK. It’s a place of quiet and calm in the middle of busy Causeway Bay. It houses alternative classes that aren’t easily found in other places of wellness, yoga studios or gyms in HK. It’s very spacious because they believe HK people need this. But alas we opened during the height of the protests followed by Covid and high rent.

IT FEELS LIKE LOSING A HOME. I have never described this to a place of work. The environment here (smaller group classes and movement practices without the intention of “I just died in that class” mentality) allowed me to get in touch with a quality of teaching I’ve forgotten. HOW TO BE DELICATE. For this, I’m forever grateful.

After my sabbatical from teaching yoga, I didn’t know if I wanted to teach public classes again. I was close to burning out. But said there’s something opening and it will be different.

and I met for the first time, she asked me, “What classes would you like to teach? What are your strengths?” I got excited.

gave me a tour pre-opening, you could feel his pride and joy. This guy probably gave 20 tours that day but he was still as excited. He showed me the lounge area inside the ladies changing room, “This is where they can gather and exchange conversations too.” It’s not crowded. There’s always a place to sit with friends or to be on your own. He also promised me they will never overcrowd the studios. I said, “I’ll sign the contract, please.”

It’s an ambitious space. Because they believed that HK people are ready for it and they deserve what we wanted to offer. It’s short lived and bittersweet. But it’s a good reminder there’s a community who wants this kind of offering and a team courageous enough to set it up.

Come visit us in our last few weeks. I’m still running my yoga and movement classes. We have sound healing, tea ceremony, other mindful practices, spa services and the best plant based menu by .

Three years ago, intuitively I incorporated this as prep work for backbends. Particularly for ustrasana. I didn’t know this was called a sissy squat. I just remembered these hinge exercises from my dance training and how much it taught me to focus on the superficial front line.

During this time, I felt a deeper curiosity in my own practice and research. I started to include knowledge from my dance background, exercises I have learned from bodyworkers and other movement disciplines. It therefore led me to become creative in adding drills and exercises for my students to understand the components or prerequisites of an āsana.

I want to continue teaching. My greatest fear as a hatha yoga teacher is a stale quality of teaching, auto-pilot and burnout.

The way to counter this fear is the work that one must do to continue to evolve. What works and what doesn’t work. What still holds true? Cues that you use because you heard it from other teachers. Is there any truth in it? Questioning old cues. Question sequences.

If an old student from years ago happens to return to my class again, I would love for that student to say, “Hey these are āsanas she’s taught many times over and now there’s a different kind of awareness or invitation of seeing it.”

I think that’s a deep work in the hatha yoga practice. For a teacher to stay on the path of teaching, one must navigate ways to make the teaching alive. It starts from their personal practice and for the discoveries to be translated into their teaching. For a student to truly embody a lifelong practice, to continue to have curiosity.

Due to popular demand, I’m excited to offer additional mat spaces for the 2-hour morning progressions of my yoga teacher training programme !

More than just a set of regular yoga classes, the morning progressions offer a more in-depth and workshop approach through a series of thematic practices.

For each module, we will work on a specific theme for 5 consecutive days to develop good habits on and off the mat. The progressions also provide successful steps for consistency and progression.

Mat spaces are limited. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to dive deep into your practice. Apply now via .

This was taken in 2017. Now, yoga conferences are a thing of the past. 10th year anniversary of the Asia Yoga Conference. Both of my teachers were part of it and they met for the first time! One is based in California and the other in NY.

I proudly wore the badge that said, ‘assistant to Ross Rayburn’, I remember when he pulled me aside and said, “You have learned enough from me over the years (8 years at that time) and now I want you to make it your own. You have enough for you to lead your own workshops and training.”

I want to be this kind of teacher as well to my students who push for independence.

I remember coming up to teacher Carlos Pomeda as well. I reminded him of a deep longing years ago. I confidently said to him, “Give me a few years and I will earn enough respect so my name can be next to yours and I would love for us to work together.” All he said was, “Whenever you’re ready.”

I want to be this encouraging teacher who will advocate for their students' biggest aspirations.

It was a significant year of shifts for me. I was going through my divorce and the one that kept me going was the responsibility of being a yoga teacher. I had to show up for my students. It gave me the driving force to show up for myself.

I didn’t do any big projects that year. It was a time of healing for me, unlearning and learning. But that was the year where things started to stir inside of me.

Since then, I’ve ran 3 retreats and 3 workshops. A week from now, I’m running my first ever yoga teacher training program.

Here we go! Tenacity of purpose.

I’m every woman
Anything you want done, baby
I’ll do it naturally... even with my period 💁🏽‍♀️

We’re all learning to adapt.
High five to all my yoga teacher friends who’s had to shift their work online.

Generous offerings in their teachings so we may continue provide tools for people to help take care of mental health and well being.

Thank you to friends who have become my teachers. Sharing their wisdom and feedback so I can navigate this uncharted territory!

Here is the next bundle of a week long well rounded practice.

Maximum of 20 students in this livestream class via zoom. I still pay so much importance to connection even if it means through lenses and screens. I’d like to have engagement, interaction and dialogue with people who also long for it. This separates this from a pre-recorded session (that has a different value too).

We will work on progressions. We don’t always have to start strong. It’s nice to also work smart and not just hard.

We will use our Hatha practice as a tool to cultivate steadfastness and focus. Vinyasa for resilience and adaptability. Restorative to reduce stress and recharge. Meditation for mindfulness.

500 HKD for all 5 classes via Zoom with a 72 hour playback for all the sessions. We will focus on arm balances (aka arm balances 😬).
