Don't let the failures of some people convince you that everyone is the same. Don't be too hard on yourself when you make a mistake or stumble and fall. Don't let a difficult season convince you that ALL seasons are difficult. The fact that you've been disappointed means you cared enough to hope for something better. The world still needs people who are willing to build, teach, create, lead, and serve... even when it isn't easy. Rest if you need to. Regroup if you must. But don't allow temporary discouragement to make permanent decisions for you. The work you're doing may be affecting more people than you realize.

Take heart from Galatians 6:9 -- "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Not all martial arts schools are the same and that’s OK. Choosing a martial art school isn’t necessarily about finding the “best” but rather about finding the right fit for your family.

The smiling face of “the cheerleader who didn’t belong.”

Behind this smile, I was being bullied, teased, left out… and quietly struggling with more than anyone could see. I didn’t feel like I fit in anywhere… but I kept showing up, and I kept smiling.

Maybe that’s why I care so deeply now. Why I fight so hard to make sure others feel seen, valued, and like they truly belong.

Because I know what it’s like to feel invisible in a crowd.

And then… I found theatre.

A place where being different wasn’t something to hide… it was something to celebrate. A place where I could finally breathe, be myself, and belong.

And I found my church family, too. It was a place of grace, love, and truth that reminded me I was never alone, even in the hardest seasons.

If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t fit in? Keep going. Your place is out there. Sometimes it just takes a little longer to find it. ❤️

I absolutely love visiting classrooms! I went to college to be a teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. While I am a teacher now, it is not the way I had originally imagined when I was younger. Life takes us in many different directions and our paths are led the way we are meant to. I am so thankful to have gotten to be part of this visit today!

This is possibly the best advice you could ever receive and it doesn’t apply to JUST martial arts. Get the basics right and practice them consistently and you are going to be head and shoulders above those who won’t bother. I am constantly shocked by the (lack of) “customer service” from large scale businesses.

Ask me about the “wonderful” experience we had from a recent toilet installation and I’ll gladly share with you…

Running household and homeschooling things? Taking it back to the BASICS gives me that deep breath whenever I feel overwhelmed. Food? Check. Clean clothes! Check. Everyone learned something today? Check. Maybe things didn’t go according to my grand plan, but if we did the basics? I can be grateful, appreciative, and move forward joyfully.

Here’s my question: What are YOUR basics that you go back to? What keeps you moving, motivated and grounded each and every day?

I have many reasons why I study martial arts—but my deepest reason is why I teach. This picture holds so many of them. Young women learning confidence. Learning to speak up. To use their voices. To stand strong in who they are. To support one another instead of competing. To help others feel less helpless. To realize how much joy, strength, and light they bring into every space they enter. As a mother of girls, this matters to me on a deeper level. I want them—and every young woman—to know they are allowed to take up space. To be strong and kind. To be capable, resilient, and unapologetically themselves.

We don’t always know what someone has carried from their past. We don’t always see the experiences that shaped them. But we can see who they are right now—and help them grow into the strongest, most confident version of themselves.

Everything we do makes an impact.

Every example we set matters.

And when we lift young women up, the ripple effect is powerful.

Just want y’all to listen to this statement in his explanation: “Every block is a strike and every strike is a block.” If you’ve taken a class with me or with any of my team, you’ve heard that statement before.

Now, let’s consider how we could apply that concept (Block/Strike or Strike/Block) to a (non-combat) life lesson: Just because YOU don’t see a statement you’ve made as an attack, doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t internalize the comment. Or maybe the OTHER person said something that YOU took the wrong way and they were simply making a “block” of a statement. Perception and intent BOTH matter in communication.

It’s okay to ask for clarity, even if you might worry that the thing you’re going to ask about might make you seem stupid or silly. What’s not okay? Holding onto a grudge and letting it eat at you.

On the one hand, I miss those sweet days of baby snuggles and on the other.. this video brought back my parenting PTSD. 😂 This was one of the many reasons I took up Baby Wearing. Like or comment if you can relate.

It’s been a while since I suited up at a charity event in the name of being a super hero… going through old photos makes me nostalgic. The joy and delight, especially from children at the Hospitals was a GIFT that still warms my heart and soul. I’m glad that this was a chapter in my life, whether or not I ever truly get to revisit it in the future or not.
