25 straight days of hunting… and on May 25th, I finally punched my first tag of the season.
This season has been one of the toughest mentally. I’ve been around birds all year, but between heartbreaks, bad luck, missed opportunities, and long days coming home empty handed, it starts to make you question everything. The early mornings, miles walked, time away from family, and pressure to succeed all take a toll.
But the only thing I knew how to do was keep grinding.
A last minute decision this morning paid off. One call, a gobble in the tree across the field, and minutes later this bird pitched down looking for me. After a few soft yelps, he worked back up the field edge and gave me a perfect 35 yard shot opportunity.
This bird means a lot.
10.5” beard
1 1/8” spur
19.7lbs
Couldn’t be more thankful. Good luck to everyone still chasing them this last week! 🦃
