First Win of the Season for the Under 15 Girls! ❤️🏏

The Under 15 girls made the trip to Peterlee this evening to take on Hartlepool in what turned out to be a thrilling contest that went right down to the very last ball.

After winning the toss, Murton elected to field first and immediately showed great energy and determination in the field. Amelia struck early with an important wicket, before Freya produced a superb spell, claiming three wickets. Ivy wrapped up the innings with the final wicket, thanks to an excellent catch from Erin. Evie also bowled brilliantly, keeping the runs to a minimum, while the accuracy and consistency from all of the bowlers made scoring difficult for the opposition.

Special mention goes to Ada, Sophie and Ivy, whose outstanding fielding prevented several boundaries and helped keep the pressure firmly on Hartlepool.

With 103 to chase, Murton knew they had a challenge ahead. Evie and Erin opened the batting and laid the foundations before some excellent contributions throughout the order. Freya, Sophie and Emmie all batted superbly, with Emmie leading the way in spectacular fashion. She finished unbeaten on a remarkable 47 runs, striking boundaries and sixes with confidence and keeping Murton in the hunt.

As the game entered its closing stages, the tension around the ground grew. With everything still in the balance, the match came down to the final ball of the final over, with players, coaches and parents all watching on nervously.

In a fantastic advert for girls' hardball cricket, Murton held their nerve to secure a memorable 107-103 victory and claim their first win of the season. 🎉

Every single girl played their part and should be incredibly proud of the teamwork, commitment and spirit they showed throughout the evening.

A huge thank you to Stacey for helping warm up the girls and assisting with the scoring, to Phil for umpiring, and to all the parents for their encouragement and support from the sidelines. Your support is always appreciated.

A well-deserved victory, but more importantly another brilliant team performance.

Well done, girls – enjoy that first win of the season. You certainly earned it! ❤️🏏🔥

Earlier today our under 13 girls travelled to Eppleton to play a friendly game as we could not field a full side.

Despite being a player short the girls did absolutely amazing coming away with a 25 run win.

The girls put in an exemplar fielding display restricting Eppleton to 100/8 (115) with wickets for Maggie T, Edie, Hollie, Lara and Lilly.

🥇 Maggie T – 3 overs, 14 runs, 2 wickets
🥈 Edie – 3 overs, 4 runs, 1 wicket
🥉 Lilly – 3 overs, 4 runs, 1 wicket

In reply we finished with a score of 100/3 (140).

All 4 pairs communicated with each other brilliantly and contributed to our total.

🥇 Edie – 22 runs (15 balls)
🥈 Emmie – 19 runs (11 balls)
🥉 Phoebe – 12 runs (15 balls)

It was a brilliant all round performance, where every player contributed against a strong Eppleton team.

Congratulations to Hollie on making her debut and welcome to the club!

Well done girls, keep being amazing.

What a fantastic day of softball cricket at South Hetton Festival! 🏏
In the group stages, the team secured impressive victories over Hetton Lyons 1 and East Rainton, before narrowly losing to South Hetton 1. A friendly match against Seaham Park also ended in defeat, but spirits remained high throughout the day.
Finishing second in the group earned a place in the 3rd/4th play-off against Dawdon. Despite a determined effort, the team narrowly missed out and finished in a very respectable fourth place overall.
Every player contributed brilliantly, with valuable runs, excellent catches and some sharp run-outs. A special mention must go to Stacey, who bowled a superb double maiden, showing fantastic control and consistency throughout her spell. Fern also had another outstanding performance, taking a wicket and a superb catch, with her confidence continuing to grow with every game she plays. I am sure everyone will agree she is a real asset to the team.
A huge thank you also to Phil for umpiring and to Imogen for keeping score – your support was greatly appreciated.
Well done, everyone – a great team effort and plenty to be proud of! 👏🏏💙

🌟 Huge thank you to Jimmy King and Andy Watson! 🌟

Two absolute legends who stepped up again as our All Stars Cricket Activators this summer — giving up 8+ consecutive Fridays so boys and girls in our community could fall in love with cricket.

Your dedication, energy and commitment have made a massive difference to Murton Cricket Club and to every young player who turned up smiling each week.

We appreciate you both more than you know. 🙌💛

Why not give them a like or drop them a comment to show your appreciation for the amazing work that they do with the younger kids at the club!
