It’s been a while since we updated everyone on Sabrina. She’s been continuing to work hard behind the scenes with the team in Dallas at the Bachik clinic. She’s now had two stem cell treatments and the improvement is remarkable. She is standing independently.
For this video she was able to stand for over 8 1/2 minutes before she got tired.
You can see more videos of Sabrina on the Bachik instagram page ()

Sabrina started riding a couple of weeks ago. This video is from her first ride. She has a modified saddle built by Usher Brand Silver & Saddlery. Big shout to them for their attention to detail to build this custom saddle that is an exact replica of her barrel saddle. The saddle is slightly higher in the back and it has straps to ensure Sabrina can’t come off and that her legs are secure. It was sponsored by Usher Saddles, the Shine Foundation and the Straz Strong Foundation (https://www.strazstrongfoundation.com). If you have a chance, go to their website and see the amazing things they do.

You can see from the video that Sabrina is now able to support her core while riding her horse. She’s been riding for about 20 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. It is the best therapy ever because it takes advantage of her muscle memory associated with all the years on the back of a horse. Looking forward to an amazing summer riding around home.

In this video, Sabrina is standing with some aid from Ryan, but what you will notice is that her legs are completely free of any restraints or support. they are kind of wobbling like a newborn calf. Basically her system is getting feedback and it getting sufficient signal for her to stabilize herself and being quite successful at it. This is a major breakthrough For her.

Update from Dallas. Sabrina is fairly consistently initiating steps on her own.

Sabrina can pull her legs forward by herself!

Sabrina standing independently on a balance block to stimulate her feet muscles to correct.
Ryan is spotting/hovering her hip with one hand and no one blocking her knees.

“She’s standing on her own!”

We love to see her therapists cheering her on as much as we are!

This is Sabrina walking yesterday. It is different than what she’s done at Synaptic. Here she is supporting her full weight. You can see that there are rubber bands assisting her toe flexion, which allows her to engage her hip flexors and drive her leg forward. And like the leg press, she is able to lock her knee out.

Another video from Sabrina’s work with the Bachik Methods Neuro Recovery team. In this one they have DC current going through her legs to help “jumpstart” her Neuro pathways by increasing the electricity during the rep.

About the Bachik Method
Ryan Bachik was a professional strength and conditioning coach. Ryan’s Wife, Kendal was involved in a car accident and suffered a C5 fracture. They met after her accident and then got married. This relationship essentially inspired Ryan to take his rehab, exercise, strength and conditioning experience and focus it on spinal cord and traumatic brain injury rehab, and recovery.
Bachik essentially has like-minded people from a variety of exercise, physical therapy, naturopathic, and osteopathic backgrounds who focus on developing better methods to enhance recovery. They’ve created a lot of their own equipment in order to pursue this mission. It is a group of people that share their daily learnings with each other, which in the end benefits their clientele.

Sabrina is definitely benefiting from their experience and expertise!

Sabrina is currently down in Dallas working with the Bachik Methods Neuro Recovery team. This is a video of her doing leg presses. This is ALL Sabrina pushing the sled up. In addition to her body weight there is 25 pound rubber band connected to the sled. She did numerous sets! Sabrina is doing three hours of therapy a day, five days a week. Such amazing strength and resilience!

Originally they were planning to be down there for 4 weeks but with the results they’ve seen in just the past two days they may end up extending it.

Love seeing the continued improvement because of all the hard work she puts in.

Another amazing milestone! This was Sabrina’s first time standing with no knee support. Her therapist, Rudy, is behind Sabrina just spotting her.

Last week WITH someone supporting her knees, she stood for:
7 min + 10 min
7 min + 10 min
20 Min + 5 min

So moving forward this week to standing WITHOUT support is an exponential improvement.

Many people with spine injuries are unable to regain the ability to walk because their core cannot stabilize their torso. No issues with that here!

They say if you can stand for 7 min you can walk, so we are very optimistic and hopefully about Sabrina’s continued recovery.

Ultimately, it’s her grit and determination that have brought her this far and will continue to be the backbone (no pun intended) of her progress. ❤️♥️❤️
