Recent food safety inspections across different cities have raised concerns about hygiene, storage, pest control, temperature control and food handling at several Zepto dark stores. Some of the locations that have faced inspection or regulatory action in recent months include:

This Reel is not about Food Farmer. He is simply promoting his product, and there is no allegation against him here.

My question is for Zepto.

If a dark store can be maintained this clean, organised and presentable when a camera is around, why shouldn’t the same standards be maintained for every consumer, every single day?

Food safety standards should be consistent, whether there is a camera or not.

Every consumer deserves the same standard.

Sharing a panel discussion I had with NDTV Profit on the need for Front of Pack Warning Labels.

I’ve been talking about this for a long time because consumers deserve simple, clear and transparent information about the food they buy.

The front of a package can often make a product look far healthier than it actually is.

Think about the claims we see every day:

• Juices highlighting vitamins and minerals while being high in sugar
• Milk mixes promoting “no added sugar” while containing added flavours and other ingredients
• Chocolates that can be loaded with sugar and contain palm oil or hydrogenated fats
• Children’s breakfast cereals marketed as nutritious while some are high in sugar
• Packaged foods highlighting added vitamins and minerals while also containing artificial colours or flavours

Consumers should not have to decode a complicated nutrition panel to understand what they are buying.

Information needs to be clear, accessible and simplified.

That is why I have been a strong advocate for Front of Pack Warning Labels. A simple, clearly visible warning can help consumers identify important nutritional concerns at a glance and make a more informed choice.

FSSAI has taken action after testing compounded hing samples from leading brands. Here are the key details:

1. WHAT HAPPENED?
Following a consumer complaint, FSSAI conducted market surveillance and laboratory testing of compounded hing.

2. EVEREST FINDING
Alcohol soluble extract was 0 to 3%, against the required minimum of 5%, indicating 30 to 40% less raw hing than expected.

3. LG FINDING
Six raw hing varieties were tested. Starch was found at 15 to 32%, against the maximum permissible limit of 1%.

4. WHAT DID FSSAI CONCLUDE?
The concerned samples were found non compliant and substandard.

5. WHAT ACTION WAS TAKEN?
FSSAI issued Prohibition of Sale Orders and directed corrective action and voluntary recall of the substandard products.

Troovy When will we see FSSAI compliance on all platforms?

In June 2026, FSSAI flagged Troovy over the use of “Healthy” in the trade name of certain products.

Roughly 2.5 months later, Troovy has updated its own website and dropped “Healthy” from these product names. I appreciate that correction.

However, the same “Healthy” naming can still be seen on platforms like Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit and Amazon, where these products continue to be listed.

If a correction is required for FSSAI compliance, it should reflect across all platforms where the product is being sold.

Troovy, please get this updated across all platforms at the earliest. Ensuring consistent, FSSAI compliant labeling across every sales channel is the brand’s responsibility.

Consumers deserve FSSAI compliant labeling, wherever they choose to buy a product.

What a lovely experience meeting Navjotji Navjot Singh | Fitness • Lifestyle ❤️

I have been following Navjot ji’s work for quite some time, watching his reels and the way he creates content that is informative, engaging and inspiring. Meeting him in person was even better because he was so warm, humble and genuinely down to earth.

And the best part was getting some of his time for a fun 30 seconds rapid fire! 😄 It was spontaneous, fun and such a memorable little interaction.

I understand that you may not like my work because, according to you, I don’t talk about every issue in food safety.

Trust me, I’m trying my best.

But if you genuinely feel there are gaps in my work, I urge you to start your own handle.

What is stopping you?

You have a phone.
You have a data plan.
You have information at hand.
Create your account and start.

And if your argument is, “But you have such a big social media presence. So many people follow you, watch your reels, and you have an impact.”

Let me tell you, I also started at zero.

Nobody was backing me up.

It was my fight against the lobby then, and it continues to be my fight today.

Along the way, there have been toxic comments, negativity, threats, legal notices from brands, and people targeting me.

I’m not saying this for sympathy. That is not what I’m looking for.

I just want you to introspect.

If you genuinely believe there are gaps in the conversation around food safety, then why can’t you be the one to fill them?

Start your own handle.

Use your voice.

THREE GHEE BRANDS UNDER FSSAI SCANNER, REGULATOR PROHIBITS THEIR SALE

According to FSSAI’s notice dated 20 August 2026:

• Brands named: Shraddha, Shree Saras and Gokul, manufactured by SDP Industries Private Limited, Ringanwada, Daman.

• 19 May 2026: Enforcement inspection and sampling found multiple ghee samples non compliant.

• What did testing find? β sitosterol was detected, along with non compliance in fatty acid composition. FSSAI states that these findings are indicative of the presence of foreign or vegetable fats.

• This was not an isolated instance. Earlier samples from 2024 and January 2026 had also shown non conformity in critical parameters.

• The company appealed the initial findings. Referral Food Laboratory reports received in August 2026 confirmed non conformity in the tested samples.

• The notice also records a substandard ghee penalty in August 2023 and a further offence under Section 64 of the FSS Act, with a fine imposed in October 2025.

• FSSAI’s action: Due to the repeated and continuing non compliance, sale of all ghee variants manufactured, stored or sold by SDP Industries from its authorised premises was prohibited until further orders, irrespective of brand, product name, type, batch or lot.

💧 ₹20 Packaged Drinking Water vs ₹60 Natural Mineral Water

Both are one litre. So why the price difference?

Here’s the basic difference 👇

💧 Packaged Drinking Water

1. Source: Groundwater, borewell or municipal water supply.
2. Purification: Can undergo processes such as RO, UV or other permitted processes.
3. Minerals: RO can remove dissolved minerals, so some brands may add minerals back.
4. Examples: Bisleri, Aquafina, Kinley, Rail Neer and Clear.

💧 Natural Mineral Water

1. Source: Natural springs or natural underground water sources.
2. Minerals: Contains naturally occurring minerals.
3. Processing: Different standards and permitted processes apply compared with packaged drinking water.
4. Examples: Himalayan, Heege, QUA and Evian.

🔎 How do you know the difference?

Simply turn the bottle around and read the label.

It will specify whether it is Packaged Drinking Water or Natural Mineral Water.

Both are safe to drink when compliant with applicable standards.

🌍 And one last thing: Single use plastic is a huge environmental problem. Wherever possible, carry water from home in a reusable stainless steel or glass bottle and reduce your use of single use plastic.

Read the label. Know what you’re drinking. 💧

Glad to see corrective action being taken following FSSAI’s notice.

The official FSSAI post mentions No Added Sugar and comparative claims in relation to Eat Better Ventures Pvt. Ltd.

The updated packaging now carries “Sweetened with Dates” instead of “No Added Sugar.”

As consumers, we want clear and transparent labelling.
