Peaceful autumn evening in Simon's Town

18/02/2025

The 2022 Golden Globe Race is over. It didn’t turn out quite the way I had hoped as I had to make a three day stop in Hobart to de-barnacle, but it was an incredible 278 day adventure and I’m thrilled that I persevered and got the whole way around the world; one of only six competitors out of 16 entrants to do so. What an event. What an amazing team with me and what wonderful supporters from all over the world. I couldn’t have done it without you.

What’s next? Well, I’m committed to being Team Manager for Isa Rosli who has entered Olleanna in the Golden Globe Race 2026. I’m busy completing a Lyle Hess Falmouth Cutter 34’ in which I intend to sail to the start of the 2026 event to help Isa prepare for his epic.

I'll be sailing in a boat I haven't sailed for 47 years, the Optimist! This time it's for an amazing cause, The Little Optimist Sailing Academy and the incredible work they do with getting kids from all walks of life into boats and teaching them the essential life skills that only sailing can do. Please help them achieve their goals by making any donation you can to:

FROM JEREMY:

Usually words just roll off my tongue when I have something I want to say but today, I find myself almost speechless.

Olleanna has been sold and has a wonderful new owner, a Canadian from Vancouver, who will campaign her in the next Golden Globe Race in 2026. In early August I sailed her from Les Sables d'Olonne to her temporary home at Les Ports de l'Atlantique (www.placedeport.fr) near Frossay on the Loire River where she is now stored ashore until the new owner can get to France to take delivery of her.

Olleanna was a big part of my life for the last 4 years and saying farewell was a bittersweet moment. It had to happen so I can move on with my future projects but that doesn't make it any easier. We experienced so much together from the rebuild to the sail from Cape Town to France and then the lap around the world. There were many, many more good times than bad ones and the good ones will live on in my memory forever.

I could not have made the start or finish lines without the help and support of so many amazing people, some of whom follow this page. I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you. If I was able to make even the smallest positive contribution to the furthering of anyone's adventures and instilling of wanderlust, then I consider my work here done!

I will leave this specific page up but will not be active on it unless there is a really good reason.

Thank you once again for all the support,
Jeremy

We will be closing Jeremy's BackABuddy funding page. His adventure inspired so many around the world.

Thank you to everyone who contributed throughout the campaign. It is deeply appreciated.

May the impact of the race and all the sailors involved keep inspiring us all to do the best we can. Every day.

Thank you for the feature SAIL+Leasure

SA's Kirsten Neuschäfer broke 2 records by winning the Golden Globe Race. An incredible achievement!

But just as remarkable is fellow South African, Jeremy Bagshaw who completed his circumnavigation - even with every obstacle the ocean could throw at him!

Wonderful to have my spray dodger back after repairs, especially as it’s raining in Les Sables d’Olonne.
