As today is "World Diabetes Day" I thought it would be appropriate for me to share a little bit more about my weight loss journey. I have NEVER felt comfortable in my own skin. I grew up with excess weight which continued to develop as an adult. People would always tell me that, as a dancer, I looked fit and healthy from their perspectives but deep down I knew that something was off.
Years later of trying every diet, exercise plan, weight loss supplements, etc. nothing worked! I was getting frustrated with how long I had let this go on but honestly didn't know what the problem was. I saw doctor after doctor who ran test after test and finally found the answers I was so desperate for. I had a hormonal imbalance in my stomach that was causing me to retain the weight and was preventing me from losing weight. I had become a borderline diabetic with high blood pressure by 27 years old! Enough was enough!
I took a leap of faith (based on some great recommendations by my amazing support system) and went through with Bariatric Gastric Sleeve Surgery on 5/24/22. I've been rapidly losing weight and regaining my health. I feel stronger and more empowered to kick ass as a CEO/founder of a property management company that I formed shortly after the surgery. Each day gets easier by practicing consistency and not overwhelming myself. I go to the gym 5+ times a week now and eat a 98% plant based diet. I'm not where I want to be but success doesn't happen overnight! Like anything you have to be willing to put in the work.
I write all this (not for pity or to bore you with my backstory) but to encourage others out there to follow their gut and make their dreams come true. I was at a crossroads in my life as to which direction I would be taking. I'm very thankful that I chose this direction because I wouldn't change it for the world! If you or someone you know has diabetes please reach out and show them some support today. 💜💙🤍
