💙💛 are heading into Year 4... and what a journey it's been! 💙💛

For nearly four years we've never been afraid to knock on doors, ask difficult questions and challenge the way things are done. 🚪👊

Sometimes people agreed with us... sometimes they absolutely didn't! 😂

🏀 One of the biggest examples?
For three years we've been calling for more nations to compete in European Women's wheelchair basketball. Now we're finally seeing five new teams featuring in Division B. 👏🌍

Do we think the job is finished? 🤔

No.

We still believe Europe should scrap the Division A & Division B format and create one unified European Women's Championship where every nation grows together. 🌍💪

But for today... we'll happily sit here smiling knowing our voices were pointing in the right direction. 😊

👀 Then came what we called the "Third Eye" on classification...
We highlighted what we believe are loopholes and exploitation within the classification system. Many people didn't like us talking about it... some wished we'd stay quiet... but that was never going to happen. 😅

It was never about upsetting individuals.
It was about making enough noise for the people who matter to start listening. 📢

Now it seems both the IPC and IWBF are recognising that classification issues need addressing because they can damage the integrity of our sport. That's a conversation we believe had to happen. ♿🏀

And that's just two examples...
Over the last four years we've highlighted plenty of other issues, celebrated the sport's history, promoted the players, supported the fans and continued asking the questions that others sometimes won't. 🔥

For now though... we're taking a breather. ☕🎾

IWBF in partnership with the Hague University of Applied Sciences have been awarded an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Classification Research Grant to carry out a project that will further enhance the integrity, credibility and fairness of Para sport competition.

The 2026 gets underway this afternoon! 🇨🇦🔥

If you're anything like us, you'll already be glued to the GB Men 🇬🇧 taking on Japan 🇯🇵, and then the action switches across the Atlantic where Canada 🇨🇦, USA 🇺🇸, Australia 🇦🇺 and Italy 🇮🇹 are all set to lock horns in what promises to be an incredible Invitational! 💥🏆

🤷‍♂️ As for the GB Women 🇬🇧 over in the Netherlands 🇳🇱... we've searched high and low but can't find any live links. So before anyone asks... don't blame us! 😂🔍

At times it looks like they're playing a game of "You take it... no, you take it!" 🤣

Strange is an understatement! 😂

The good news? 😄 The lads look like they're enjoying themselves and that's always great to see! 💙❤️

👀 One thing we did notice...

There's no sign of Phil Pratt on the sidelines, while Terry Bywater is there but in a very different role than we're used to seeing. He's not dressed to play, there's no game chair beside him, and he's watching from the sidelines rather than being ready to roll onto court.

It certainly adds another talking point as this coaching setup continues to evolve. 🤔

📹 Hopefully the coaching staff are already sat in front of the video this afternoon analysing today's game with Japan... especially that press breaker! 👀

As many of you already know, due to some private issues we've had to reduce our output recently. ❤️ That said... there's NO CHANCE we're missing the build-up to the ! 🔥🇨🇦

As you've seen from our recent promotional posts, the gave us a fantastic early look at several of the top women's teams... and now it's the MEN'S TURN! 👀💪

🇮🇹 Italy have already travelled Down Under to take part in the Aussie Rollers vs World Series, and now they're back in action as their preparations move into top gear! ⚙️

🚨🏀 SQUADS REVEALED! 🇬🇧🔥 World Championships 🔥🇬🇧

The wait is over... the GB Men & GB Women squads are officially locked in for the World Championships, and there are some HUGE talking points! 👀💭

👩 GB WOMEN

There's one change from last year's World Championship squad.
⬅️ Out: Kayli English
➡️ In: Alice McHaffie

But the biggest talking point has to be Helen Freeman.
Last year the coaches felt Helen's comeback had come too soon and she wasn't quite ready... but after another year, she still misses out. 🤔

From our point of view, this raises a big question...
When you look at the squad balance, isn't Helen Freeman the closest player Great Britain has to providing genuine cover for Robyn Love? 🧐

We just can't quite make that one add up... but maybe there's a plan we're yet to see.

Now this is where WhatsApp has gone into meltdown! 📱😂

We've been debating this one ourselves...
When you weigh up what's been taken away versus what's been added, opinions are very much split. 🤯

It's certainly a bold selection, and we suspect the coaches already have very specific line-ups in mind.

🏆 The Köln Nations Cup will probably give us our first real clue as to how they intend to use this squad.

After the Europeans we discussed on The Delinquents Show whether GB should consider using Robyn Love alongside two 1.0 players and two bigs.

With Helen Freeman (4.0) available, that combination always looked like an interesting option to us.
Will we see something different in Germany? 🇩🇪

🏆🔥 THE ROAD TO OTTAWA 2026 STARTS NOW! 🔥🏆

As the countdown to the 2026 IWBF World Championships continues, the hype train is officially leaving the station! 🚂💨

From June 25th-28th, Wheelchair Basketball Canada and their Senior Women's National Team will host the Ottawa Invitational, welcoming three of the world's top nations for four days of elite international wheelchair basketball action! 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇯🇵🇧🇷

💥 CANADA – Always amongst the medals and looking to make a statement on home court.
💥 USA – A powerhouse of the women's game and perennial title contenders.
💥 JAPAN – Young, exciting, rebuilding and developing rapidly with one eye firmly on the future.
💥 BRAZIL – The surprise automatic qualifiers who now have the opportunity to prove they belong amongst the world's best.

Every game will be streamed LIVE on the Canada Wheelchair Basketball YouTube channel 📺, and as always, The Delinquents will be adding every available game to our Playlist Library for fans who can't catch the action live! 🎥🍿

This tournament may be labelled an exhibition event, but make no mistake... these are four nations with ambitions of standing on the podium in Ottawa next September 🥇🥈🥉

🏀 Men's Repechage – Suphan Buri, Thailand 🇹🇭

This tournament was a perfect example of something we've been saying ever since the first Paris 2024 Repechage – more teams are needed!

If you remember, at the 2024 Men's Repechage, 🇮🇹 Italy won all three of their group games but then lost the vital crossover match and missed out on the Paralympics altogether. It showed that the first three games don't always carry enough importance.
For the 2026 Repechage, 🇻🇪 Venezuela replaced 🇲🇽 Mexico and 🇸🇳 Senegal replaced 🇿🇦 South Africa after both nations withdrew. The tournament was designed for 8 teams, but Venezuela later withdrew before tip-off, leaving only 7 teams in the men's competition.

That meant every day one team received a 20-0 bye win 😬 and, on the final day, one group effectively had a team qualifying for without even needing to play.
The knock-on effect of withdrawals and replacement teams coming through zonal qualification weakened the overall competition, and the results reflected that.
✅ Qualified Teams
🇮🇷 Iran
Iran secured the automatic qualification spot. They were the typical "4 bigs and 1 low" lineup we've become accustomed to seeing in the modern era, but credit where it's due – they got the job done. 👏
🇧🇷 Brazil
Brazil booked their place in Ottawa by defeating 🇰🇷 Korea 75-67 in the first knockout game. 🔥
🇵🇱 Poland
The next game saw Poland secure qualification by beating hosts 🇹🇭 Thailand 59-48 in a surprisingly low-scoring contest. It was redemption for the Poles after narrowly missing automatic qualification through the European Championships. 💪
🇳🇱 Netherlands
The final qualification game saw the Netherlands take on Senegal, who had replaced South Africa. While it was great to see the African zonal representatives competing against some of the world's elite teams, it still leaves the question:
🤔 How can IWBF further develop wheelchair basketball in Africa?
Maybe one day a World Championship on the continent could help attract greater attention and investment.
As for this game, the Dutch were dominant in every area and secured the final Ottawa ticket with a convincing 91-40 victory. 🚀

🎙️ Commentary Team of the Tournament
To wrap up the men's event, we still believe more teams are needed to protect the competition when withdrawals happen.
However, one thing that absolutely deserves praise was the commentary.
👏 John Hobbs and his commentary partner (whose name unfortunately we didn't catch) delivered some of the best structured and educational commentary we've heard in wheelchair basketball.
For those unable to watch games due to work, appointments or life getting in the way, simply listening made it incredibly easy to follow what was happening on court.
Outstanding work from both commentators. 🙌👏

🏀 Women's Repechage – Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸
Just three weeks before tip-off, the tournament venue had to be relocated due to unforeseen operational issues 😬
Not ideal, but unlike the men's competition, the women's tournament at least had all 8 teams present.
We even got an overtime game! ⏰ Something of a rarity across both Repechages, as many games were unfortunately quite one-sided.
✅ Qualified Teams
🇦🇺 Australia
The Gliders looked vastly improved and cruised past 🇦🇷 Argentina 63-34 to return to the world stage. 🦘
🇫🇷 France
A completely different team from the one we saw at the Europeans. Following the heartbreak of missing out on a home Paralympics, they produced a dominant 68-17 victory over 🇨🇴 Colombia and look firmly back on track. 🔥
🇩🇪 Germany
Head Coach Joseph's rebuild appears to be gathering pace. Germany secured qualification with the closest knockout victory of the tournament, defeating 🇯🇵 Japan 59-46. 💪
🇪🇸 Spain
The hosts made light work of 🇦🇴 Angola, winning 55-12 and booking their place in Ottawa. 🇪🇸🎉
📊 A Delinquents Observation
If you've followed our coverage over the years, you'll know our long-standing women's basketball theory:
🏀 Score 60 points and you've got a very good chance of winning.
Once again that trend appeared.
Across the four knockout games, only two teams scored more than 60 points...
And both qualified.
Come on coaches, let's get those offences firing! 😄🔥

👀 The "Quietly Strange" Part...
Some of you may remember the Women's European Championships.
Only five teams were involved, yet France finished 5th while Spain and Germany finished 3rd and 4th.
However, before the semi-finals there was a strange round-robin scenario involving France, Spain and Germany.
France effectively had multiple opportunities to reach the semi-finals.
Strange enough already, right? 🤔
Well then Spain won the bid to host the Repechage, creating an additional European place.
That extra place went to...
🇫🇷 France.
Meaning France ultimately had four separate opportunities to qualify for the World Championships.
We're not criticising France, who absolutely earned their place in Madrid, but the qualification pathway itself feels difficult to justify and is certainly something worth reviewing in future cycles.

🎙️ Women's Commentary
Unlike the men's tournament, where commentary changes improved the product, we felt the women's coverage unfortunately went the other way.
One commentator even messaged The Delinquents following one of our posts, unhappy with our criticism.
But commentary teams across every sport receive feedback. That's simply part of the job.
Hearing phrases such as:
🗣️ "What a great finish!"..for an uncontested layup.
Or hearing Angola's qualification reduced to "their little tournament" 😬
was disappointing.
Women's wheelchair basketball deserves the very best promotion possible. Perhaps IWBF should consider assigning its strongest and most experienced commentary teams to the women's events to help continue growing the sport. 🌟

⭐ Players Who Caught Our Eye
🇫🇷 France #20 Grâce Wembolua
What a player. 🔥
We've marked her down as one for the future. She looks capable of becoming a major part of France's rebuilding project over the coming years.
🇩🇪 Germany
One interesting observation was that Germany qualified despite not having one of their key European Championship performer Mareike Miller available.
The rebuild is real, and it looks like it's gaining momentum. 📈

The road to 🇨🇦 Ottawa is now officially mapped out and the countdown has truly begun! ⏳🌎

From surprise matchups 😲 to potential group-of-death scenarios 💀 and some mouthwatering clashes already on the horizon 🍿, the world's best wheelchair basketball nations now know exactly what stands between them and World Championship glory. The draw follows the final qualification events taking place this week in Madrid and Thailand.

🎙️ As hosts of 's best podcast (our words, not yours 😉), there was absolutely no chance we were missing this one!

🏆 Dreams will be made.
💔 Hearts will be broken.
🌍 New rivalries will be born.
🇨🇦 And in 2026, the world will meet in Ottawa.
