Losing posture is one of the main causes why players have a flat shoulder plane at the top of their swing, which will lead to early extension, over the top movement and many more faults.
Here is a quick drill to visually help you focus on this problem.
Alignment View Drill
How it works:
- Place one alignment stick down for aiming (to ensure you set up parallel)
- Place another alignment stick in the middle of your stance ➕ crossing the other one making almost a plus/cross sign
- Place club 2 inches infront of the alignment stick
- Swing to the top and stop, can you see the alignment stick?
If not, you have lost posture. If you can, your shoulder plane is correct.
Take a few practice swing and ensure to see the alignment stick, place a ball at the same spot and start striking.
